Newbie question on Oswalt

Is it just me or should Oswalt be $8.99 not $3.99?

Figgins--LF///Cabrera 3b------------Well heck, the question changed..I thought it was where to use Figgins and Cabrera :D

As for Oswalt----IMO he is priced about right...He will NOT be 8 mil dominant....Not in any league I have been in anyway.

Thanks Pelzer, for both answers.

Maybe the numbers play out that way for Oswalt. But a 20 game winner with sub 3.00, it doesn't make sense. If SOM makes $ clutch hitting for players to explain why someone gets more RBI's than their raw averages would suggest, shouldn't they use $ clutch pitching to explain why someone who gives up so many hits can get such a low ERA?[/quote]

Good question....Don't know the answer..

Here are some numbers on Oswalt at Minute Maid in a theme league---I of course had the Astros;

W-13 L-16 IP 294.2 H-287 R-126 ER-121 W-62 K's-188 HR-25 ERA-4.36 WHIP-1.40

This was with Everett at SS and Vizciano/Biggio at 2b and Tavares in CF....I am sure when Biggio was at 2b it did not help his numbers but like I said it was a theme league.......This was the only team I used him on and I have seen him post much better numbers than this, but IMO he would definately not be worth almost 9 mil---No way :D Let some of the other vets chime in on this....This is just my opinion

In many leagues I've been in, Oswalt is usually dropped by mid-season. For some reason, I've seen him get shellacked in parts of all sorts.

Here is Oswalt in Petco:

20-10, 287 IP, 310 H, 122 R, 111 ER, 64 BB, 170 SO, 25 HR, 3.48 ERA, 1.30 WHIP

On the same staff, Jon Garland was a 19-game winner and Smoltz was a 17-game winner. There was no lights-out closer on this team (Reitsma and Putz shared duties and especially Reitsma did surprisingly well, with 24 saves and a 1.16 WHIP), so the starters really carried the burden.

There was decent, but not spectacular, defense behind him: Grudzielanek-- often hurt, so Weeks or Mackowiak played 2B a fair amount; Jeter at SS; Sizemore in CF.

The team struggled at times but Oswalt rarely did. He would have won more had the team as a whole performed slightly better.

So I'd say he was worth every penny in this instance.

Always performs well for me, he's never available after the draft, and I miss him in the draft quite a bit, so I'm sure soe other feel the same way.

He's a bit streaky, and needs the right park, but in the end, his numbers are always good for me.

Evidence of what the geek is saying:

Notice the six sarters. Notice he is not racking up the innings at just past the 2/3 point of the season. He'll probably turn in just over 200 inn.

I try to pitch The Chicken Man vs left handed teams. You could say that Turner is a pitchers' park to some extent.

In the beginning he sucked, and he may suck again, but he has really turned it around. Glad I DIDN'T dump him.

I think he is a good value if he is 3rd or 4th in the rotation....but have seen him struggle as often as he excels.... :)
