can nomar play short?

Postby aleitel » Fri Sep 08, 2006 3:07 pm

this is my first time playing strat o matic so i'm sure i will struggle quite a bit. that aside, can nomar do it, or will he just put up below average defense before getting injured? he doesn't cost much, but i suppose there is a reason for that. also how closely do the simulated stats match the actual stats that a player puts up?

You hit the nail on the head. I had him in a theme league where I platooned him at 3rd and he played some DH some. He had ok numbers, but he did get injured more then average, which is what you would expect.

In all cases, keep him out of the middle.

High injury & bad fielding guys like Nomar will cost less than similar hitters that don't get injured as often and play good defense.

Check out the Newbie advice thread in the Strategy forum. It will give you a good basis to start with!

Most players will not mirror their stats for a couple of reasons. One, they are facing the best hitters/pitchers and two, ballparks have a lot to do with the final results. A. Jones will not hit 50 home runs if the home field is Petco, or there are a lot of pitchers parks in the league.

As far as Nomar goes, not a good choice at all. You're in my league, so I know he would be playing in Petco, where every baserunner is important. You already have a 3 playing 2nd base. Peavy and Santana will be begging for a trade if you go with a Nomar/Utley middle. And, when Cameron gets hurt, and B. Clark comes to play CF, not only will Santana and Peavy ask for a trade, I doubt they would even take the mound for you.

Stick with Cabrera as your SS, and find hitting elsewhere.
