Playoff matchups

While watching my favorites, the Twins, last nite on MLB Extra Innings, Dick Bremer, the play by play announcer, pointed out that the Twins, should they get into the playoffs as the wild card, cannot face the Tigers or White Sox since in the major leagues the wild card team cannot face the winner of their own division in the first round of the playoffs. (this of course means even if they get into the wild card the Yankees will probably pummell them again). I would like to have SOM online consider a change in the playoff matchups so that two teams from the same division cannot face each other in the first round of the playoffs, at least to have that as a league option when the league is created. What does everyone else think? It may not be possible from a game engine standpoint but so often the two best teams in strato meet in the first round of the playoffs that I would at least like to see some discussion on the point. I am for it if it can be easily and equitably changed. It seems to happen to me a lot and I would prefer to play outside my division in the playoffs 1st round anyway.

Help me on the rationale for this. Isn't your roster more geared to beat the teams in your division rather than the league at large? I don't see any disadvantage to a first-round matchup within your division.

It is not so unusual to have the two best teams in a league be in the same division, so it would be nice to actually see matchups that promoted a final series where the two best teams had a chance to slug it out in a seven-game series.

More often than not, the 2nd best IS the wild card. And the rational about facing the team is your division is while you might be set up vs them, they in turn are set up vs you.

I think is unfair that two teams that have the top two records in the leage have to face each other in a 5 game series while otherwise they could possibly settle things in a 7 game series.
