Catcher Defense

What process do you use for deciding how good a catcher's defense needs to be acceptable for your team?

Find the best offensive weapon/weapons you can afford that fits your team and block out the defensive rating.

Nothing matters?

range 1,2,3,4 or 5
error rating
throwing arm
throwing error
pb error

None of these matter, when compared to offence?

They matter, yes, but not that much.

Range- definately not.
Arm- maybe a little (but really depends on who you have on the mound, some have +9 ratings...)

Oh they matter, the question was posed as to what was acceptable to "my" team as opposed to "a" team, which, well, doesn't matter much to me.

Jerlins - What are your criteria?

When deciding for your team, what criteria do you use?

offense, arm, T rating.

the rest I don't care about.

Offense, obvioulsy is #1, but the arm (to stop the running game) and the T rating (so he doesn't throw it into CF) are the only parts that really matter to me.

Catching

Postby KENNETHSMALLWOOD » Sat Dec 16, 2006 10:32 pm

If offense is your Top concern from the catcher postion, you going to have a long season... The more you can take away from your oponent the better it is...... You have to cut the running game down, The more you keep the runners at first, the more double plays you will turn and it becomes a two hit inning to score him..... In 12 team leagues, almost all teams have somewhat of a running game.

A lot of the Stats wont show the worth of a catcher that can throw.. You will see a good pct but what you have to look at is attempts..... What you need is a catcher that stop the running game and not a decdent throw out pct.... I agree the pitcher is a big part of the running game.. But that is for another discussing question.
