Anyone ever just draft players for fun?

I do it all the time, which explains my winning (whining? :oops:) percentage. I like to build a team around a theme with a number of players in their real home park, and see if with a few tweaks I can make them competitive. It doesn't always work--sometimes it does--but even if they tank, I can stay interested in players that I like.

I also have no scruples. I'm a die hard Yankees fan, but I have no qualms about putting Manny out in LF of the House that Ruth Built.

I have absolutely no allegiance between real life and these cards. for example, couldn't wait for the '69 and now '70 cubs to come out...but immedietly realized when I saw the cards why they broke by 12-year old heart. just like every cubs team ever, no obp, and was startled to see the defense so much weaker than I remembered. about the only guy worth using from those sets is hickman and fergie, and sometimes billy williams, who was my favorite. I too try to avoid bonds...but couldn't resist him this year...I just think of him as Y.A. (your assh*le)
I actually find that guys I like in real life, i end up hating if they suck for me here! :x

When I was a newbie--my first ever ATG team was the 69 Mets--I mean I had the whole team (and about $20mil spare cap room as I recall). I think they won, like, 50 games.

That was, indeed, a miracle. :shock:
