Need recommendations for a 1B switch

Postby Rant » Thu Apr 19, 2007 11:05 am

I believe all people are saying is that having the bulk of a lineup as switch hitters makes you succeptable to certain pitchers and your numbers may be reflecting that.

Berkman is underperforming for you right now, but should pick up the pace. Frankly you won't get equal value by dropping him -- the players you list have some mashers in the bunch but Berkman should kill RHP and not do much against LHP (his obp is decent enough that you could use him).

Your park is a singles park, and will drag down bphrs period, but for Lefties and switch hitters vs. RHP.

If I made up your order I'd go:

1. Lofton DH L
2. Ianetta C R
3. Berkman 1B SL
4. Vlad RF R
5. Beltran CF SL
6. Huff 3B L
7. Figgins LF SL
8. Rollins SS SL
9. Roberts 2B SL

I don't think you need Duffy on the bench. You can pick up a .50 utility outfielder, drop Jenks and put the rest of the money into a mildly right balanced R2 with low WHIP and low natural HRs. Especially if you've decided Jones is your closer now.

If you can afford Helms he's the best for you. If not with your lineup, I might try Coste in his place. You'd need to drop Matheny and use the other funds wisely.

Maybe the 06 set was bad news for Fenway, not so for the 07 set. I have Overbay on a couple of Fenway teams now, leading the league in doubles. 13/3 13/6 is not an extreme park by any means.

sorry for the slow response, I spent a lot of time trying to figure out exactly what you should do
(I also lost internet last night)..

I would not drop Berkman, you will NOT get back what you are dropping the penalty is too much

looks like you made some moves from when I was looking yesterday....all mostly good it would seem ...especially the 4 man rotation and getting down to 24 players....I had it worked where you could get around 5 million just by making good safe cuts, which it looks like you did already ...

I would platoon Matherny with Lofton by DHing Coste against lefties, if you have not thought of that already, then i would drop Kapler for . 5 - M. Prado to get a guy you can put in if Matheny goes down.

Then I would drop F. Hernandez for a .5 pitcher and use the money to upgrade your bullpen even more probably with Brandon Lyon (drop Eyre) ...sorry not mucuh else i can suggest. Everyone else has chimed in with good advice and you followed it, which is great ....you still have a lot of holes to be honest , you have lost 4 million in salary through drops....next time you make a team post it here before the season starts and we will hook you up ....

hope the season gets better

Thanks for the input Turtle. I'm chalking the entire experience up to the rookie learning curve. Hopefully I'm actually learning something and my next team will be much better.
