Any Way To Get HAL To Steal When Trailing?

Any Way To Get HAL To Steal When Trailing?

One of my 2007 teams went up against John Patterson (+9) with a catcher (-1). I have my steal set to agressive. I'm down 3-0 in the bottom of the third and Vizquel leads off with a single. His 2nd steal rating is 12 which I believe means there is no possible way for him to get thrown out. He stays put. Later in the game Wright gets on, also a 12, and also stays put. The next batter grounds into a double play!

If memory serves me well the sum of Pitcher's HLD and Catcher's T rating can not be higher than +5 (nor lower than -5) so a 12 +5 = 17 minus the def hold -2 if the lead is established and -4 if the lead is not established (if the runner was being held -very likely) would make for a total of 13 if the runners failed to establish their lead (the 2nd steal rating you are refering to)

So, the odds for stealing w/o a lead in that case would be 65% in aggresive its a borderline call -very aggresive might've been a green light.

Maybe I'm wrong though.

Thank you for clearing that up. It's been a long time since I've played the board game. I'm in Shea and my team is floundering. Trying to make something happen. I was afraid to go very aggresive because it seems like HAL can go bananas with some of these settings.

Yep, with very aggresive you'll end up with guys getting thrown trying to steal 3B and such.

Post your link in the boards if you have any Qs, lots of really cool helpful and good advise around.

Check out the Strategy forum as well -if you haven't done so. Anything that marcus wilby and DeanTSC write is a must read -two of the best around. If you find a J-Pav post go through it as well, another one of the wicked good SOMers.

Good luck.

I have experimented with the aggressive setting and found it to be more reasonable than expected. My team actually stole the most bases in 2006(478) AND won the championship using the aggressive setting and "steal more" with the 19-15 guys only. I'm not surprised Vizquel didn't steal, as HAL won't run wild, as I thought he would myself. Very aggressive is a little out of control, as posted above.
