The One Thing That Strat's Missing...

Postby Runnin Rebel » Wed Jul 04, 2007 5:02 pm

I've missed this topic so far, but from my experience if someone goes into a league and starts "wheelin' and dealin'" he's labeled a TANKER who is ruining the experience for everyone else.

Sometimes the draft provides a surplus of talent at one position or a player might underperform in a particular ballpark, but the FREE AGENT market is preferred by owners who are looking for that one player who can put them back in the race.

Still at some point teams go from BUYERS to SELLERS on the trade market, but finding takers is a hard proposition.

It is not that I am not with you on trading being easier. It is just that most suggestions I hear for facilitating it would either be difficult to program or open loopholes less honorable people could use to cheat.

When I first started back on the 2001 game I made a couple trades a season on all my teams. Now I never even try. The reason is simple. I cannot remember the last time I negotiated with someone that what they offered did not totally destroy my team.

But there have been some good suggestions on this thread.

I liked the idea of a trading block where teams could list players they wish to get rid of and those they consider untouchable. Then I do not have to waste time shopping my guys or wondering who you consider untradeable no matter what the offer.

I also liked the idea of some portion of salary being available for keeping a "minor league". If the price for getting the catcher I wanted from you was my starting SS now I say no. But if I had a decent SS in my minors to call up and give the position to I might say yes.

I hear you on your concerns, but i really feel like my suggestion is cheat-proof. By preventing newly (trade) acquire players from entering games until that team is under tha cap, there is no way for that team to cheat. All it does is open up trading possibilities. Maybe I missunderstood your post, but I really cant see any downside to my suggestion. It's actually similar to how many fantasy baseball sites work. if you DL a player and he comes off the DL, the system won't allow you to make ANY roster moves and won't let him enter the game until you drop someone. If yahoo and other fantasy baseball sites can program this simple safeguard, why can't TSN/Strat? It seems pretty straightfoward. It's really just a matter of designating a different roster-type spot. We can have "24-man" players who can get into any game, and then you can have "inactive" players who are on your squad and owned by you, but who will not be able to play until you free up cap space.
It doesn't sound all that difficult to do, and I really do think it would make interaction with other managers (which i really find to be a fun part of the game) more feasible and enjoyable.
There's really not enough comaraderie in the leagues, and you guys are the types of people i would love to interact more with.
Baseball AND a Strat Fan? You know about Barry's Juice AND that he's gone from a 1 to a 4 in left over the years? You can eat at my dinner table any time.
