Question about the OFF-line game . . .

Question about the OFF-line game . . .

Postby SmokeyAlston » Wed Mar 19, 2008 8:52 am

In the ad's for the offline game, the past-season disks show up as 3.5 hard-disks, not CD's . . . anyone know if that is the case? I don't even have such a drive. Haven't seen a new PC in a long time . . . do they still have such drives? (I'm working from a dual-platform Mac.)

I think they are all 3.5. I ordered the ratings disk this year for the first time in a few years and assumed it would be CD but it wasn't. Fortunately my neighbor has an older computer so I uploaded it on his and emailed it to myself. You could try finding someone like that.

Good idea . . . thanks! I might also just go for broke and buy a usb external floppy drive. Am I right that the game cd has some kind of season[i:8873fb0c79] on [/i:8873fb0c79]it?

The game is all done through a CD. With the newer version, you receive an authorization code that only allows the game to be played on one computer at a time.

All the team rosters are on the CD you receive. But you only get the authorization codes for seasons you purchase.

The game runs on Windows. It will only run on a Mac in Windows run via Boot Camp, Parallels, etc.

If you buy the game, it comes with the latest season.

Okay . . . please don't think of me as completely clueless when I ask this (though I might be): if I buy the new CD (yes, I'm running Windows through Boot Camp--runs very well), I would be able to play the latest season, included on the CD, without doing anything else, right?

You are correct. With your CD you'll get an authorization number for the game itself and for the 2007 season. There is much in the way of instructions, but there is a help function you can go to.

You will have to decide whether or not to get the card reader on the game (it shows the pitcher's and hitter's SOM cards on the scoreboard as you play). To me, it makes the game a lot more enjoyable.

If you haven't yet been there, you should go to strat-o-matic.com instead of ordering through the TSN page. There are a lot more seasons and things available on the strat site.

I haven't been playing the CD game very long. If you come up with more complicated questions, send me a PM and I'll give you a few names of guys who have been playing the CD game quite a bit and generally are happy to help us newbies.

Thanks . . . this is exactly what I needed to know . . . especially the part about going to Strat-o-matic.com . . . I don't think I'd have thought of that.
