Combine the SOM forums?

another suggestion...

Postby geekor » Mon Mar 24, 2008 4:32 pm

would to separate forums by thread standard.

i.e

SOM general talk
SOM Touney talks
strategy (ie how my team)
league advertising (known as come join my league, etc)
individual thread
questions.

bullpen should just be the forums at the bottom anyways.

Then as a 2nd step bring back community moderators, upstanding people in the community who have the rights to move and lock threads and keep things sane. I know some people had this right in the old boards, and it would help keeps things sane if posts were in their proper places.

Also, if we could actually search the forums..... well I'm not sure why it was taken away. All I know it makes it damn hard to even PM someone when you can't even search for their username.... as far as I'm concerned these boards are still BETA, because no functionality that was promised has EVER been delivered, and in fact some has been taken away (ie search).

We sort of have this now. Sykes and I are moderators in the 70's, 80's & 1986 forums only. That is...as long as you consider us "upstanding".

Here's an example of one I like (are we stuck with the current setup?)

A lot more organized and easier to use and search at a glance or in depth. You should never have to scroll unless 1- you're on a blackberry or 2-you choose to search in depth. Everything should be on a dashboard-style presentation like on the link.

and here's the forum provider:
http://www.jivesoftware.com/

I think it would streamline it greatly and would help cross pollinate the community. Maybe some you need are:

A SOM catch all forum
--maybe a separate strategy forum or bloggable sticky within it, since most will just post in whatever forum pops up when they hit the message boards link. Would be nice for strategy to be stickied.
A specific forum for league calls
a specific forum for each sponsored tourney
a gripes forum

SOM mechanics are SOM mechanics, right now the artificial separation is only because of the player set used and that doesn't seem logically organized or efficient.

[quote:0529c0cd38]4) drastically cut down on the places I need to keep up with, as a company representative[/quote:0529c0cd38]

Seems to me the only forum you should have to keep up with is [i:0529c0cd38]Questions, Suggestions, Issues for TSN[/i:0529c0cd38]

Just let it be known far and wide that this is the forum for all to post in if they want to catch your ear. Then of course you need to be listening.

For those wondering about the Search function here is what happened.

Bernie, appreciate you asking for input, but you do what you think is best for all concerned. I don't mind combining the forums a bit, and its not much effort to sift through the ones we don't want to read.
