Newbie Questions

Postby vindal » Tue May 13, 2008 9:18 am

I'm a newbie and have a couple of Strat-O-Matic questions. Can someone please help me out on the following.

1) The rules say that upon completion of the regular season, which will end on a Friday, there will be two simulated days of rest before the beginning of the semi finals and one simulated day of rest between the semi-finals and finals. Do those simulated days of rest count as days of rest for your starting pitchers? In other words, if a starter, who can pitch on three days rest, pitches game #161 would he be able to pitch the first game of the semi finals?

2) When I was playing the Strat-O-Matic board game back in the 60's, I believe there was a rule that stated, when there are two outs, a baserunner attempting to take an extra base will have his running range increased by two. In other words, a baserunner with a running range of 1-17 would have his running range increased to 1-19 when trying to take the extra base with two outs. Is there a similar rule in the simulated version of Strat-O-Matic? Does HAL take that into account?

3) In looking at the cards for the 2007 game, I notice that closers have both an R and a C rating (i.e. R1C6). What does the R and C mean?

Thanks
Vin

Yes, they count as day's of rest, so a SP* who pitches game 161 can pitch game 1 of the playoffs.

I believe that is the case, although not 100% sure.

R designates what inning of Relief pitching the pitcher is subject to fatigue, the C is the number of batters at which he is subject to fatigue, if he enters the game in a save situation.

Playoffs

Hey, that's pretty good if you are new and already planning for the playoffs. Good luck.

For some reason, it feels good when you hear that someone else played the board game in the 1960's.

Once again, good luck in the playoffs.

Hi:

I'm in my first league and only half a season has passed so at this point I don't know whether I'll qualify for the playoffs. I was just asking everyone all the questions that I had after re-reading the rules. I'm hoping that someday day I will make the playoffs. I love Strat-O-Matic and started playing it when I was in grammar school. The simulated version is great. I love reading the recaps each morning and analyzing all the stats of the league.

Every version of Strat-O-Matic gives a runner +2 to their running rating with two outs all the way back to the basic game in the 60s. This is not an optional rule.

Gentlemen
Thanks for the response. I understand the board game rules but the SOM online application is sometimes skewed btwn boards versions... we are supposed to be playing by Super Advanced Rules but there are subtle variations.....my obvious question is how is this handled in accordence with a teams running settings? I have been playing online for many years now and this is the first time I have had this game featured discussed. Based on past experience I have waited for authorized/written proof of the detailed rules. I hope the comminity here can disect this "issue/non-issue" with their regular effectiveness.
