My team is 10-11 right now...and Mariano Rivera has pitched a whopping total of 2.1 innings!!

How could this be? I'd rather have him pitch than Sanchez and Riske, even Walker who's not doing so hot for my team but always seems to destroy opponents when he's not on my team. Should I just put closer setting on "regular" to get Rivera more innings or what?

I would put closer to regular and don't come in before 8th.

Maximize closer is effective when you truly have a one inning guy but Rivera can handle more work.

Who's your main set up man?

Ok thanks Stoney. My set up guy is Gordon...he ends up playing 3, 4 innings a game and Rivera doesn't get the innings. Then when Gordon is tired HAL's putting in Riske and Sanchez. argh! 8)

Personally,

I'd rather have Gordon pitch till his arm falls off. He's the most expensive reliever in the set, so you need to get your $'s worth.

Unless it's a save situation, Rivera will not come in. Check on your scores in those games. See if you had the lead going into the ninth inning.

Walker: Avoid Righties/Avoid coming in before the ninth.
Either Riske or Sanchez should be your mop-up guy.
Gordon: Avoid entering game during a blow-out/Avoid coming in before the 7th.
Rivera: Avoid coming in before the 8th.

Ok I kinda have my settings that way now. I have Riske as my mop up guy and I want Gordon to get the bulk of the innings as he's the most expensive like you said. But I want Rivera to get some too...he should have more than 2.1 at this time.

The others have blown games when Rivera could have come in and got me the win. Does it have to be a save situation for a closer to come in? I thought the closer could come in any time really as he's likely your best reliever and you want to keep the other team from scoring so your offence could come back. I don't know...

Also, since my starting pitching isn't the greatest I have Gordon as "do not come in before sixth inning".

If you have closer set to maximize I believe that Rivera will only come in in a save situation.

Another idea for you Crazy, is to check Rivera as "Set Up" and "Closer" vs both RH'ers and LH'ers, "slow hook", "avoid using in bow outs", "do not use before 8th". Then check Gordon "slow hook". Rest of your relievers then checked as "mop up".

This should give Rivera 2 innings per appearance and Gordon the bulk of your other relief innings. Other guys would be used only when the game is out of hand.

Thanks. I had those settings for Rivera but I didn't know I could put him as set up and closer. So I have him at "do not use before 8th inning" and Gordon at "do not use before 6th inning". Thanks again.
