How Injury Ratings are Determined???

Postby thisisdan26 » Sat Oct 04, 2008 10:24 am

I was hoping someone could explain how the injury ratings are determined. I know if a player plays every game he is a "0" and that if they have over 600 PAs they are a "1" and can only be out for 3 games max at a time. Are DL appearances factored in? Leaving games for injuries? For example...in the 2007 cards.....Jason Bartlett appeared in 140 games and had 560 PAs and is a "1" injury. However, for the 2008 season(cards not out obviously) A-Rod played in 138 games and had 575 PAs, yet he missed almost a month with an injury and he has close to the same amount of games played and more PAs than Bartlett, but I am almost certain that he will be a 2 or 3 injury. So if anyone knows the process of how the ratings are determined, could you please explain?? Thanks guys....sorry if this was rediculously confusing

Ya gotta remember that walks account for AB's as well.

So PA's + BB's are what matters.

yeah i added up the ABs and BBs to get the PAs, so those numbers include BBs.

I think that is a factor in determining the injury rating.
I looked at injury rating vs. days on the DL for 6-8 players for each of the injury ratings:

(Current season)

[b:e156511f1a]Inj 2[/b:e156511f1a] - DL days (including minor league rehabs) ranged from 0-30.
I assume that those that have a 2 with no DL days had minor injuries that kept them out of games.

[b:e156511f1a]Inj 3[/b:e156511f1a] - 30 - 44

[b:e156511f1a]Inj 4[/b:e156511f1a] - 45 - 84

[b:e156511f1a]Inj 5[/b:e156511f1a] - 68 - 94

[b:e156511f1a]Inj 6[/b:e156511f1a] - 88+

Since there is overlap in the DL days vs. Inj categories there are other factors that determine the Inj rating. Probably days on the pine with owies.

A-Rod was on the DL for 21 days so he will most likely get a 2.
