Draft logic

Draft logic

Postby AeroDave10 » Sun Oct 05, 2008 4:00 pm

I just came off of having a very poor draft, and to add insult to injury, I am baffled at how one player in particular was selected. I put Skip Schumaker on my draft card (3.72M), but I received Michael Bourn (2.41) instead. There are at least a dozen other guys (probably more) that qualify at LF, CF, and/or RF that could have been taken. There were right and left-handed guys, good/bad defense, good/bad speed. I have plenty of money left over so it couldn't have been that. What gives?

I'm sure this is what you'll find:

Schumaker-------->Taken
G. Anderson------->Taken (next lf available)
Ibanez------------->Taken (next lf available)
Bourn-------------->You received (next available lf)

When you miss out on a player, you receive the next available player not taken from the primary position of that player. It matters not if the player you missed, has played other positions. You received the first available left fielder (primary position) not taken.

According to the Game Rules:

[quote:d4022345ff]For each team that lost out on a player:

The team receives the next highest-priced player that is the same primary position of the original player, [b:d4022345ff]that was not selected by any team[/b:d4022345ff]. [/quote:d4022345ff]

Schumaker and Bourn both have the same primary position, LF. Schumaker costs 3.71, Bourn 2.41.
In-between their prices are 18 other LF's.

Millar, K.
Anderson, G.
Mclouth, N.
Ibanez, R.
Jackson, C.
Wigginton, T.
Nady, X.
Ortmeier, D.
Snyder, C.
Bautista, J.
Wilkerson, B.
Winn, R.
Easley, D.
Lewis, F.
Lofton, K.
Damon, J.
Ethier, A.
Gomes, J.

Are any of these FA's after the autodraft?

Thanks for that info, Jerlins. That seems to be the case. However, that logic is still really stupid. I don't understand why they would only draft guys out of their primary positions when many guys are just as good, if not better, at other positions. That fact, which can also be debated, calls into question the entire relevance of a "primary position".

Palmtana,

Only the 2 players I mentioned are in between Schumaker and Bourne as "primary LF's". Go to a FA list, selects "hitters" "all" and you'll see that to be the case. You have to use "hitters" and not LF's to see what I've explained.

Aerodave,

I agree with you. Nothing is more frustrating getting a bad draft and then following it up with players you don't want or need. Nothing would satisfy me more than a draft style similar to ones found in Yahoo fantasy leagues. Rank as many as you want, and also have a "do not draft" option as well.

Ahh. Gotcha, Jerlins.
It did seem strange that all 18 of those players I listed would have been drafted.
