Talk me off a ledge

Talk me off a ledge

I have used Billy Wagner one other time this year, and was very happy with him - had 27 saves with only 4 BS on a PNC team. So I happily grabbed him in a 60MM league recently. 45 games in (AT&T with one other AT&T and 2 hitters parks) and here is his line:

1-4 11SV 7BS 28.2 30 17 16 10 34 3 5.02 1.40

Is it just bad luck? I can't believe how many leads he's blown in the 9th inning (OK, 7). My division isn't particularly stacked against lefties (I have Santana and he's 5-1) or with guys like Ankiel, so I can't logically figure out the problem. And I have Bell as setup so it's not like Wagner is pitching too many multiple inning saves.

So, Cordero is available - should I think about making the switch or just be patient as I want to be?

Roll of the dice,...roar(or moan) of the crowd. Hang in there! Wagner's card is solid! I think spending more than 4 million on a closer is a COMPLETE waste of money! They just do not get in enough innings! I have never used Wagner, until now(a league that has not started yet) I am confident in him!

I have Wagner in a $100M league and he's doing very well, although I don't have him in a closer role (Isringhausen). Wagner's line thru 129 games -

9 2 0 1 80.1 57 23 23 26 92 8 2.58 1.03

I actually have a similar situation with Mariano Rivera. I figured I was in good shape with him as my closer in an AL only league but he's failed miserably as a closer -

0 5 20 11 48.2 59 29 28 13 51 8 5.18 1.48

11 blown saves - I pulled him from the closer role (put in Chris Ray) and Rivera has done better. I assume it's the luck of the roll with him as well. I may chance putting him back in the roll.

JUMP!!!! Check out this Wagner disaster in PNC. 21 BLOWN saves. Combined with Benoit to save 28 games and only blew a mere 30 save opportunities. Amazingly lost 15 games pitching strictly in the closer role. Must be one of the worst performances ever for a duo. He had done OK there for me one or two other times.

oof. Was your division lefty-heavy? With your starters I could see that, but that's my worst case scenario. But, he did save two last night without a hitch so maybe it's starting to even out.
