Any thoughts on a couple pitchers?

Any thoughts on a couple pitchers?

Didn't get the picks I wanted for a theme league, and I'm left with few choices for pitchers.

Curious if anyone has thoughts about Brian Bannister, Dustin McGowan, and Jeremy Guthrie in a pitcher's park?

musings on said pitchers

Postby mightyquinnj » Tue Feb 24, 2009 5:23 pm

I picked up Bannister this season due to a number of oponents that were heavy with right handed batters. He did so well against these teams that I started him in the first game of the playoffs against one of these teams and he won. His regular season stats were 8-4, 4.38 ERA, 1.24 WHIP in 100 innings and won his playoff game 5 to 2. I was in a $100M leauge and could afford a pitcher that could specialize against such opponents. I also liked his hold rating as well as 0 balk and error ratings. But he fit my situation and would only do well in such heretofore mentioned situations. In that same leauge Guthrie went 3 and 11 while McGowan was 10-10 for other teams.

Thanks HIROLLER. I was contemplating moves b/c McGowen and Bannister weren't cutting it (though, they finished with a combined 17-16 record. It was an $80M theme league in which we had one star and the rest of the players were under $5M. I was in Angels Stadium. My defense didn't help my pitchers...

Bannister 4.93 / 1.42
McGowen 5.02 / 1.35

Normally I wouldn't go with two hard R/R (much less the third I picked up mid-season, but there were slim pickings after losing out on all of the starting pitchers on my draft card.

Wound up losing out on the playoffs on the last day of the season, and of course the team that got in won it all.
