Bull Pen Logic

Bull Pen Logic

Postby Brent65 » Thu Apr 23, 2009 7:18 am

Here is another example of issues with the bull pen. Check this out, I'm up by three and I have my closer and my next best RP set-up, but HAL, gives the hook to both of them and they only pitched to one or two players. Then he brings in my lower quality RP. Of couse the game is lost with this decision by HAL. How can this be prevented?

Do you have Wagner and Nathan on slow hook?

My closer is set on:

Slow hook
Don't bring in before 8th inning
1 to 2 innings max.
IBB less with this pitcher.

But sometimes HAL is a genius

So here was the situation 2007 season. Runners on 2nd and 3rd. One out.
I am down 4-3. Broxton is pitching for me, not tired. (3L) Up steps Granderson (9R). HAL pulls Broxton for Joe Beimel (6L). Roll is 3-11 popout. Vs the right it is a Ball Park Homer (1-14) which would have at least added a run or been a 3 run homer. Beimel is set to quick hook, pull vs right. Chulk is brought into face Miguel Cabrera and nails him. Ankiel homers in the bottom of the ninth to tie the game into extra innings. I win in 11 on a Fielder homer. I'm now within one game of first with six games to go. I owe it all to HAL the genius.

"Bullpen Logic" is an oxymoron.

I posted a thread in the 1969 category regarding HAL's lack of action in bringing in a relief pitcher in a recent game of mine, even though the starting pitcher had reached his point of weakness (fortunately I won, but only after the opposing team scored two runs pulled within one run in the ninth inning).

Changes are on the way.....

As for this situation I'm betting you have 'Avoid' set on Nathan and Wagner.

Anyone involved the "Updating the Bullpen Logic" project have any idea on an arrival time?

From what I hear it will be released "when it's ready"

It's not a simple process and there are new screens to add and such. My thought is whatever it takes to get it right. I'd rather wait another month or two for a better product.
