New bullpen logic :-)

[quote:eb5aea9aa9="socalchiro"]Then your best RP starts. Thats what usually happens.[/quote:eb5aea9aa9]

Exactly and he would be lots better than some 50¢ SP. This would be better statistically however it would be more realistic to have a real SP, even the 50¢ variety, be the emergency starter.

So performance wise we could lose the option of the 5th SP. If you would rather have more realism then keep the mandatory 5th SP.

if your best rp starts won't the fatigue factor set in by the 4th inning? also, if he starts and he is your best rp, how many games will he sit outbefore he can rp again?

[quote:f2c0846d36]Why not make ATG-V a Mystery Card game?[/quote:f2c0846d36]

Because then you'd lose one of ATG's best players (me)- the mystery card thing is a GIMMICK and is not Strat-O-Matic baseball it's fantasy baseball... I surely hope they never do this because I really enjoy playing Strat here, but in a rough economy I can definitely see them trying new gimmicks to increase the bottom line...

I am positive that they would never get rid of ATG as it is right now. If they even entertained an ATG mystery card game it would be a seperate game. It would not replace the current ATG format.

As to the mystery card being a gimmick......It is a version of Strat just like anything else. I think it is more like real baseball. Going into the 2009 season I'm pretty sure that the Red Sox were happy to have David Ortiz batting 3rd in their lineup. Well it turns out that they have gotten his one bad card this year and it is time to cut him, take the salary hit, and try someone else as the DH just like you would in a mystery card game. I'm sure the Red Sox would love to know that they were going to have the 2004 or 2005 Big Papi but you just never know which card you will get. :D

Big Papi is (was) a roid-head and has come to the end of his career. I think the mystery card analogy doesn't apply to someone like him.

Now, someone like Freddie Sanchez last year, that might be an incidence of a mystery card phenomonon. Although, he was hurt, and there was no real mystery to it...

There are enough random injury factors in Strat already (although not nearly as much as should be for the pitchers, which in reality are injured a LOT more than in Strat) and I think it is fine as it is.

Sorry I just won't ever accept the mystery card as having anything to do with Strat, those of us who grew up on the game would agree...

That would be me. I played tons of strat as a kid and today the mystery card games are my favorite so that argument doesn't hold water either.

Anyway, without using names such as Ortiz or Sanchez or whoever, you have to see my point in that it is more like real baseball in that you can't count on any player having a good year or a bad year in any given year which is exactly like the mystery card concept.

So if you don't like the mystery card games that is certainly fine with me. Some people prefer ATG, some 20XX or whatever. However what we do share is a love for Strat-O-Matic baseball which is why we keep playing these games. :) Enjoy.....Have Fun! 8-)

Well I guess I can't speak for everyone, but, the mystery card is a TSN creation not having a thing to do with Strat. Strat is based on mathematics and dealing with a fixed set of cards, not trying to figure out which card you have based on reading the card results on the boxscores.

Well it doesn't have a thing to do with strat other than using real strat cards I guess. Anyway you can call it names like "not true Strat" but the bottom line is that many people enjoy playing it and it is fun which is the bottom line. 8-)

[quote:601137828d]If one of your 4 SPs get injured, then you won't have a 5th starter to replace him. [/quote:601137828d]
And if you go with a 5 man rotation and one of your starters gets injured you don't have a 6th starter to replace him. What is the difference?

The thing that would probably keep this from happening is the complexity of coding. Right now all the code has to do is count SPs. With the proposed change (which I would like) the logic would have to also count *SPs and perform that check any time a change is made to pitching roster. I would be very surprised if this ever changes.
