SP/RP fatigue question

SP/RP fatigue question

Postby ale0319 » Tue Jun 30, 2009 12:29 am

I have read a few posts about maximizing relief usage with a really solid RP and decided to try it with Liriano in the 2006 cards. I have him set as my set-up and closer vs LH and RH and he recorded 2 saves in the first series of the season. Unfortunately Peavy (one of my 4 *SPs) was injured and will miss the next series. So my questions are as follows.

1. What game will Liriano be eligible to start without fatigue? (He pitched .2 innings in game 1 and 2.1 innings in the game 3 of the series)

2. Is this the best was to maximize a shutdown reliever?

3. As for the S6/R3/C0 for Liriano, does that mean he will be considered fatigued in save oppurtunities? (He only has 4 @'s so not sure how much that may hurt me in the long run)

As always, thanks in advance....the help I've gotten on these forums have made me understand the game much better and I think I'm hooked on Strat-O for life.

Any pitcher who has a starter rating will always be most valuable as a starter, so that is the role you should be using him in anyways. If you do set him as the closer, he will immediately become tired AFTER one runner reaches base.

I had him on a 2006 team and used him in relief for about the first 40 games. He came into games in relief and did well but usually in the middle innings when my team trailed so I still was losing those games. I then started using him as a starter and realized the error of using him in relief since he was very effective, in fact, much more effective , as a starter than as a reliever.
