Several Reasons for fewer trades

Postby pcbaseballsims » Mon Aug 24, 2009 7:36 pm

[quote:4eafdcb8ce="rmilter"]Interesting stories. It is too bad more trades can not be worked out. I used to average about 1.5 trades per league, now I hardly even make trade offers anymore.[/quote:4eafdcb8ce]

Hi Miltie! Funny [b:4eafdcb8ce]PBTR [/b:4eafdcb8ce]referenced waiting [i:4eafdcb8ce]"days"[/i:4eafdcb8ce] to hear back, try [i:4eafdcb8ce]"weeks". [/i:4eafdcb8ce]

1st, chk the wire is the other GM even on there? Has he made any FA moves?

Chances are "no," meaning hes the dreaded[u:4eafdcb8ce]..."absentee owner[/u:4eafdcb8ce]" who rarely if ever monitors his team so why did he join the lg in the 1st place. I have personally experienced this in a current lg.

The other problem I see for fewer trades is most folks dont have the patience to wait on an offer after proposing a trade. Its easier, quicker to drop a guy, sign a FA. Especially if the penalty is only 5-10%. But, its not wise to NOT explore trades first where you receive 100% value... churning FAs gets co$tly.

I do believe just b/c the $alarie$ match up doesnt necessarily mean its a fair trade. If its truly a lowball offer, no answer should be expected.

The Czar makes a good point. I myself have been guilty of revamping my team and sending out trade offers only to rescind them after a short period of time. Patience is not something that some of us have when faced with an underperforming bunch and the playoffs slipping away.

I always try and responds as soon as I can, with at least a quick explanation of why I turn something down - i.e. why is doesn't work for me, etc. And I've also received the "You a**hole - try to propose an equal trade for a change" response from some other manager. As what's been said before, what's gold to one guys is garbage to another.

Trying to play like you're sitting across the table from the other guy - that's how I like to handle things. Common courtesy goes a long way here, and those that have been around awhile learn who is gracious, and who ain't.

TRADE Aftermath, Just Got a Deal Done!

"Czar makes a good point. "

THX kaviksdad :!: I love your philosophy--act as if you were playing that person (FTF) across the table from you.

Turns out the GM who kept me waiting... turns out its a moot pt b/c :

a) Hes clearly an absentee owner who hasnt made a FA move since pre-season & doesnt follow his team (so I didnt take it personally) which I just swept (dont get mad get even) :D

b) I just completed a deal w/ another GM who said b/c of a difficult day at work he wasnt able to decide immediately. I replied "no rush, no hurry" & he accepted overnight!

I just acquired a true, bonafide [b:9e7351069c]ace[/b:9e7351069c] in $8.5M Cliff (look ma no HRs on card; 22-3 in '08!) [b:9e7351069c]LEE[/b:9e7351069c] who should flourish in Chase Field (1-17 LH HR /1-11 RH HR).

I never bother to respond to form letters. Same applies here. If someone wants to communicte with me, they can do it directly. Because of my personality type -- contrarian -- I never ever comply with the wishes of someone who has adopted what semanticist I.A. Richards called the "I-Thou" rhetorical stance in relation to his audience. In fact, because of my contrarianism, I will usually do the opposite of what is being requested of me under such circumstances.

My 2 pennies worth. :)
