Mauer's Plate Apperances

Mauer's Plate Apperances

Postby BeltranFebles » Wed Jul 28, 2010 9:58 am

Hi,

Mauer had 606 PA's last season. However, when you add up his AB's and walks you get 599. I am presuming the other 7 PA's are HBP.

My question:

Is Mauer a 15 game injury risk?

Thanks.

SOM doesn't count HBP's as P.A.'s...therefore Mauer is indeed a 15 game injury risk this season.

Is he worth it?

Thanks Jeep.

So now my follow up question:

Is Mauer worth it? In a $80M, DH league. My park is AT&T.
He's out there (but obviously) I would have to cut corners elsewhere to accomodate Mauer.

I will leave it to smarter guys than I to weigh in on whether he is worth it, BUT, in about 50 games for me, he's already missed 14 from injury.

What I DO want to know from those who know: Is the 600 PA threshold an SOM Board Game requirement too? Or only SOM Online. If online, then It really should be tiered more logically.

Of the leagues I have been so far, not a single team has won less than 90 wins with Mauer.

The thing is if you carry Mauer in an $80M league -- you really have to almost punt another position. One more PA and I'd be all over him but then again he probably wouldn't be available on waivers. After I get boned on my waiver claims tomorrow -- I'll probably grab Mauer and hope for the best.

But you know, if he had 600 PA, he would cost more too, and your catcher replacement would really be a waste. TSN incorporates injuries in the pricing system, so his PAs is a non-issue, as far as I am concerned.

The only issue is picking up a cheap catcher who has good value. Avoid the Schneiders, the Bakos or the Whiteside, whose values are strictly in platoon systems, avoid the Burkes or the Tatums, who are priced 500K only because TSN can't priced them negatively. And don't overract by paying a catcher costing more than 1M which doesn't make sense when your regular has an injury at 2-12. And enjoy the ride.
