GM of the year award

GM of the year award

Postby Valen » Tue Sep 28, 2010 9:14 am

Had a thought. Suppose under league statistics/awards voting along with MVP, etc there was a GM of the Year award. The basis of this would be the GM who made the most trades among the teams with winning records. In other words, post a winning record, make the most trades, and get listed in the awards section.

Perhaps the manager ratings display could have a column added showing the number of times you have won GM of the year. Along those lines it would also be nice if there was a column showing the total number of trades a manager has made. This would allow everyone to quickly see who really trades and who just talks trades.

Imagine instead of seeing leagues created restricted to managers with 500 or fewer ratings points a Traders Village league with the criteria being an average of 5 or more trades per league.

I get where you're goin', but just because someone doesn't make trades doesn't devalue them. Maybe they're perfectly happy with their team, or maybe the salary dollars are just impossible to work out a trade within the cap.

I've been in leagues where I've made 5 or more trades in the season. I've also been in leagues where I'm comfortably in first, yet get bombarded with ridiculous trade offers that could only hurt me.

Unless you're talking $200M leagues, the salary cap is so restrictive it doesn't exactly encourage trading.

I'm more impressed with the GM's that put together a winning team without the need to trade. It shows you didn't err in putting your team together in the first place.

the best GM doesn't often need to make a trade...he/she drafted and built the best team from the start.

This game isn't really conducive to trades, especially after the season starts. There's nothing wrong with wanting to trade, but rarely is it a winning strategy. Titles are won pre-season, not during the season.

Well said "Splinter" & my friend..."Jeep".

Start w/ a great team from day 1--draft day--and often trading is a moot point.

Yeah I know that's saying something coming from the "trade" czar--"Trader Jack" McKeon.

I certainly would be in the running for [u:5ae0916d1a][b:5ae0916d1a]"GM of the Year[/b:5ae0916d1a][/u:5ae0916d1a]" based strictly on the [b:5ae0916d1a]#[/b:5ae0916d1a] of deals transacted, but Im here to confirm yes most of the time trades rarely improve a team to the extent they go from pretender to contender.

Occasionally, yes Ive made BIG deals that have helped me garner a title or two, but more often than not [u:5ae0916d1a][b:5ae0916d1a]Hal's Law [/b:5ae0916d1a][/u:5ae0916d1a]prevails, i.e., usually after multiple FA (free agent) move$ and/or big multiplayer[b:5ae0916d1a] trades[/b:5ae0916d1a], your "new" team will usually lose. Blame it on "Hal"!
