Looking for Suggestions

Postby dalekeener » Mon May 16, 2011 11:34 am

Hello! I am posting a link to my team and asking for suggestions. Season starts tonight. I am a little concerned about my pitching and having a LF4 and 2b. Any suggestions and or criticisms are of course welcome and helpful as I try to figure this on line game out...

I thank you in advance...

Right off the bat you have 3 catchers. You only need 2 as if one gets injured the other one can not. That is a rule in this game. If you have 3 than 2 can go down to injuries. You might have other plans for the third catcher I am not sure.

You only have one lefty on your staff and he is a RP and not very good. You might want to find a RP more slanted left. IOW 9L or 8L.

You have two that are good at 1B but that is the only place they play. It is ok but leaves you with no options if another player goes down. You do have 5 players that can't go down for more than 3 games. That is good as injuries seem to come in bunches.

Is Pelfrey going to start or is he going to relieve? If he is going to relieve than you have paid extra for the *. All starters that can pitch on 3 days rest cost more. You have 5 and only need 4. He will not be very good at relief. Playing at Yankee Stadium you will need your RP as it is a extreme hitters park and you will see very few complete games from your starters.

Now the real problem and it is HUGE! You only have 4 guys that can play 2B, SS and 3B. Reyes can only go down for 3 games but the other 3 can be down for up to 15 games. If a player is not listed for a postion that he plays because of injury to another player he becomes a 5 range with a very high (I think 35e) fielding rating. If you have that guy at any of these postions that is really really bad.

My suggestions for you.

Need to drop a catcher and find another infieder.

You can keep both 1B which is fine or dump one for a cheaper DH as there are many that can DH with poor fielding ratings. Cust, Betemit, Soriano, Guerrero and guys like that. With the money upgrade RP or infielders.

You might want to add a LHSP* to your team as Yankee Stadium lets lefties hit the ball out just as well as righties.

I always find a .500 player that can field and pinch run. You find those guys in the OF mostly. Nyjer comes to mind and he can field if needed. Your 2 back up OF are not very good fielders with very high e ratings 10 and 11 are bad for OF.

The GOOD NEWS! Looks like you will tear the cover off the ball in hitters parks.

I am thinking of dropping Heywood and adding Zobrist. A severe drop off in offense but Zobrist can play many positions. Taking the extra cash and getting a quality LH RP as there are not any top shelf LHSP* available.

Love the term Legoland - building blocks - ideal for SOM. Only played a couple of 2010 leagues, but Konerko seems like the real deal, and Cabrera too - I like the tandem for power. Your starters seem adequate, but I second the observation on catcher - never a need for 3. I've played two $100M leagues, so in looking at your team, it was a "wow - oh - that makes sense". Reyes didn't perform for me on one team, but seems to be a good choice. Hope to see others chime in to make a critique. I think by and large you have a good team....but I tend towards offense lately.

Your relief pitching is strong. Your starters are average at best and your defense at 2b and SS will not help matters. I assume one of your 1B is DH, so I would drop one for a platoon DH (cheap good v L batters are plentiful in this set so spend a bit more on good v R) and then upgrade either your starting pitching or middle defense. Pitching might be tough since you've chosen the * route. Maybe switch to 2 *'s and 3 decent non-*'s.
