Trade etiquette

Do you see poor trade offer etiquette as a problem?

If I offer a trade and someone read it but didn't accept or decline and didn't message me that they were thinking about it, I just rescind the offer. I figure if they're interested they'll get back to me It would be nice if they responded, but if they don't then whatever.

How about getting a response about an offer you make and the individual was looking for help at that postion and you have an abundance(keeper league). They are interested. Responses a 2nd time. The old READ the offer is posted. You then send 2 more messages to see if they are still interested and NO reponse back. Talk about lack of etiquette. Is it that hard to hit reply and write - Pass for now, thanks?

Pretty much sums up my thinking. No big deal to me. Once it is marked read consider anything other than an immediate accept as a decline and proceed accordingly.

In the scenario Frank describes where someone expresses explicit interest in a specific player/position a continuation of the dialogue is reasonable to expect. If I am putting out effort trying to help someone least they could do is converse with me.

But if I am sending unsolicited offers then I expect nothing in return. Though I do think in the first few hours after waivers or frenzy trades should be read. That is a critical time and I think you have some responsibility to the community to spend at least a little time online during that time.

Disagree

I disagree with the last post. Some people are running so many teams they might not read mail for several days. If you rescind the trade too fast, the other owner will just see it as invalid, thinking you had changed your mind. Since there isn't a time stamp on the trade offer or the reading, it is wrong to assume the other owner wasn't interested. It only takes a minute, so when ever possible all owners should read their mail daily. I sometimes travel outside the country. I like to alert my league to that fact. It only takes a second and it really helps your fellow managers.

I see your point about people running so many teams they do not read their messages for several days. Then again if they haven't even got one minute to scan their account page for leagues with messages and look at them they have too many teams. If you can't keep up scale back.

I treat lack of response same as rejection because if I am shopping someone I probaby have possibilities with other teams. For example if I am shopping Pete Alexander likely several teams showing interest. Typically I put out roughly what I am interested in getting back and from there it is first accept first get. I am not going to wait on someone to get around to noticing an offer has been sent. Not going to waste a lot of time waiting for someone to make a decision. Not going to get bent out of shape because someone does not respond but snooze ya looze. I am not going to miss out on a deal with another team because I was waiting for someone to get around to reading their mail or making a decision.

Can't take any of this too serious but my priority tends to go toward those teams that are prompt and courteous to me.

expecting others to do what you want them to do never works.
its like that expression "beating a dead horse".
continuing to beat it does not make it come back to life...

that being said, of course it would be great if everyone responded to every post, its just not going to happen, for a myriad of reasons.

i do find that i have been able to make trades after receiving a preposterous offer, i just respond similarly back and then sometimes it progresses to actually making a trade that helps both teams.

i find it more frustrating to get multiple messages from the same owner, in different leagues, trying to get me to sign up for a new league.

i would prefer that there would be one conduit for trade offers and responses, and another for banter, league sign-ups etc., but that won't happen so life goes on.

That's actually a great idea! If internal league messages had a drop down to choose a category for your message (ie, offers, banter, etc..., as you mention in your post), it would help sift through the more "time-sensitive" stuff like trade proposals that are still in negotiation stage (as opposed to the formal offer which already shows up specifically marked as such).

I think this is a great idea. Along those lines I think it would be great if we could set a switch and have the option of having the site send us an email when someone sends a trade offer, perhaps in a daily digest. I would see it as I scanned my email at end/beginning of a day and even better if it had a link to the trade so I could then respond appropriately.
