Strange(?) ending to game

Strange(?) ending to game

Postby mk_reds_fan » Sat Feb 18, 2012 2:51 pm

Hi Everyone,

Can someone explain what happened in one of last night's games in my 1986 league? The play-by-play shows the game ended on a single by Otis Nixon (link below). The opposing pitcher was Todd Worrell. The 4-7 dice roll on Worrell's card shows:
7- TR 1-1
SI** 2-20

*** BOTTOM OF INNING 9 ***
SUBSTITUTE P - Todd Worrell (role: Closer)
0 L.Matuszek 2-9 Ground Out (2B) b-0 F9
1 J.Skinner 1-4 Ground Out (3B) b-0 F9
2 J.Gantner 6-2 Single (SS) b-1 gb(SS)x F9
SUBSTITUTE PH- Otis Nixon
2 1 O.Nixon 4-7 Single (LF) 1-o b-2 F9

Was the runner on 1st thrown out trying to score? Doesn't make sense to me, but I'm guessing there is some advanced rule in play here.

Thanks,

Mike

The runner was thrown out at 3B. The rule that applies is here:

http://somonline.wikia.com/wiki/Maximum_rule:_More_baserunning_decisions

In the online game, you ignore the * after the result. The computer manager determines whether to send the runner or not based on your base running strategy.

Too bad there's not a way to tell (suggest?) HAL to not make the last out at 3rd when your team is down 2 runs.

I agree that it would be nice to have more control of the game.
