mauer, gets hurt way to much, but Varitek will be out aswell, but not as much, for the popside, except about 20-30 with mauer, but then you need a good solid catcher, and at his cost of 5 million plus another extra 1, is like 6. i would see if you could look at someone else and used the cash on other offence areas.

Mauer anytime you can get him, have a good 2 way backup/platoon such as Piazza or at the cheapest Pratt, who will at least get on base vs. RH (with a very low average.)

I don't bother with Mauer due to injury and scarcity, but always use Varitek at Shea and others. He has almost an ideal card for a LH park, with power vs RH and nice hits & OBP vs LHP's with a little pop. I also use him at leadoff(and third, and fifth) often vs LHP's when I need it. I do live in Boston, but his card is very good for a LH Park. At worst, he'll put up solid nimbers.

Mauer is a Monster. I would take him and spend on a decent back-up.
