Is it crazy to play Ortiz at 1B?

Before you answer that, consider that I also have Manny. My current defensive alignment is:

c- Matheny 1 e2
1b- Ortiz 5 e30
2b - Counsell 2 e10
3b - Mora 3 e20
ss- Tejada 2 e23
lf- Crisp 2 e6
cf- Damon 2 e7
rf- Matthews 2 e8
dh - Manny

I recently traded Konerko for Manny because I think Manny is a better fit at Fenway. Other parks in my division are another Fenway, Tropicana and the BOB.

What should I do? Trade Crisp, trade Manny, trade Ortiz? Or keep all three and hope Ortiz doesn't kill me.

I would put Manny in LF and move Ortiz to DH. Dump Crisp and Matthews. With the remaining money get a 1B & RF.

I like Crisp but you already have a leadoff guy in Damon. You also don't want two +2 OF arms with Crisp and Damon. Manny has a good arm. Get a RF with a 0 or better arm. Matthews is only good if you think you will face 40% LHP. In Fenway there is no chance of that. I would use Matthews in a platoon but not full time.

at first thought you were talking about a non dh league. in that case tough question here take the bombers advice the manny trade was a great one but no reason to dh him he will hurt you far less in left than ortiz will hurt you at 1b.

I would have kept Konerko at 1b and DHed Ortiz. Konerkos # thru 129 games in Fenway.

Thanks for the advice. I am currently shopping Crisp. And I'll look to do the same with Matthews. Although, with the 20% haircut I'm not too optimistic about what I'll find on the wire.

I AM playing in a no-DH league (but did not realize at the time of the LD), so I AM going to play Ortiz at 1B.

We shall see what will happen. :roll:

I didn't realize that the season had already started. That really handicaps what you are able (or should) do. You can only hope to trade Crisp for a RF and drop Matthews for a 1B. You might want to check out JT Snow. If you face a lot of RHP, and you will in Fenway, he might be a good pick for the money you have.

Huff, Travis Lee or Gomez might be decent choices as well.

I play Ortiz at 1B for LHP, otherwise I use Giambi as a Def. Replacement. :D :D :D
