I recently acquired Chris Carpenter in a deal knowing that he had pitched 7.1 innings for the other team in game #39, thus I expected him to enter my rotation starting with game #43. HAL, however, decided to pitch him in my game #41 where he went 9 innings and pitched a four-hitter. you are correct, as soon as a pitcher is traded he can pitch again.
