HAL's defensive substitution logic could be better

I know this is an old complaint, but I wonder how TSN might tweak HAL's logic to avoid the following:

I have Adam Kennedy. It just happened.
Concerned about injury, I drafted Juan Castro (another high injury guy) to back up at 2B, and behind him have John McDonald. I didn't call these guys out as defensive subs because Kennedy's a better fielder.

So...Kennedy gets hurt early in a series. Who goes to 2B? Brad Ausmus, one half of my catching platoon, with a stellar 5(41) rating.

Is HAL picking the best hitter who can play the position? The first 2B he comes to comes to on the list (Ausmus the catcher is at the top of the roster list)? It doesn't seem to me that it would be hard to get the program to consider three or four factors (position, hitting, fielding, L/R) in making substitution decisions...

beating a dead horse

of course you are right it is the single biggest flaw in the game. ausmus should never play the infield that is a joke.

I had k greene as my ss with c izturis as the backup. of course they both go down in same game for long stretches. Not wanting to use f lopez at ss for the next series I cut izturis and pu m izturis to play ss until greene comes back.

so Andruw Jones of all people goes down at the start of the next series and instead of moving mohr to cf and bringing in gibbons in rf giving me a 3 in cf a 3 in rf and keeping the 3 at ss. hal moves izutirs a 5 to cf and brings in my friend lopez at ss. And the reason I cut c izturis in the first place was to prevent lopez from playing ss. but hal fig out a way to get him in there.

so in the end I screwed myself I went through all these gyrations to prevent a 4 from playing ss and ended up not only having a 4 at ss but a 5 in cf. and now jones is out for two more games and if I bench him he wont play in game 3 but if I start him I get a 4 at ss and a 5 in cf for the first two games Oy Vey
