I can't figure out

I can't figure out

Postby Halo Don » Thu Dec 15, 2005 6:20 pm

what is wrong with my team?

http://fantasygames.sportingnews.com/baseball/stratomatic/2005/team/team_other.html?user_id=42241

Do lineups matter? Maybe I am missing something and I am trying to be patient but, I am starting to fall back quickly. I am 10 games back after just 55 games.

My SP is not performing and my hitters are not hitting to this point. Jeter and Vladdy are streaky so far. But Escobar just pitched a shutout (go figure).

Thanks for any advice....

Just my thoughts,
I never like having too many starters, I never carry more than 6.
I think you have too many.
You ERA is decent considering who you have for pitching. I would have tried to build a stronger bullpen.
I know a lot of people have had success with a mediocre bullpen, but I always like to have a strong r2 with a strong closer.
For hitting, depends the pitching you are facing.
Jeter is not going to put up great numbers, but he is doing what you would expect, might get 20 points higher on the average.
I have had him on two teams, AVG was .273 on one team, .261 on another.
Vladimir should produce, by the end of the season his numbers will come up. I have had him twice, both times started slow but finished strong.
Worth every penny in my opinion.
Final note, I believe some of the hitters on your team are not ideal for Angels Stadium. (i.e. Konerko, Endy Chavez).
I am sure there may be others with a better assessment.

I have been offered Dave Roberts for Endy Chavez. I didn't think it would help me though. And was going to take 40,000 more from my available cash. He would replace Endy as my starting CF.

I personally wouldn't play Roberts on CF because of his arm just my opinion though.

I agree with Vrabek on his input. Jeter has performed similarily in my teams and that is considering one was in Wrigley where I thought he'd produce more.

I have a few ideas you might try help kickstart the offense. I'll PM you later.

My two cents

You have a lot of "dead money" in your backups-generally I don't like having more than $1 in non everyday players. That being said-I think your pitching lacks an R2 setup guy (preferable in the $3+ range). You also lack OBP on offense. You are way too RH on offense. Id do the following:

DUMP or TRADE:
Escobar
Alvarez
Washburn (is there a Shea team in your league? then trade to a competitor)
Uribe (need better OBP)
R Winn
E Chavez (use Rowand in CF)
Lo Duca (need better OBP)

Pick up or Upgrade:
R2 reliever
Payton and platoon him with Robinson in LF
Estrada Pratt or Closser at C
a LH 2B-platoon w/ Perez (Harris? Kennedy?)

Don't like Winn in LF? What about a platoon situation w/Robinson?

Platoons

The dollars spent should be on the RH side. You will typically face a 70/30 mix-RH vs LH pitchers. So don't spend $3 on the LH side and only $1 on the RH side. There are cheaper LH specialist alternatives: Bocachica, Payton, Magruder.

Is it really a 70/30 Rh?LH split?? It always seems there are tons of Sheas in the league, who fill up with LHP and skew the stats in some cases the other way. Usually about 55/45. I was in one league where my division had 22 LH and 19 RHP. Luckily I had good players vs the LH side. What I mean is that the assumption you will face many more RH pitchers is not always the case.

More Sheas

then spend more $ on the LH side then. But LH specialists are easy to acquire-and you can adjust after you know the parks.

This has all been good advice. I feel I need to get Konerko off my team. Any suggestions as to what to look at for help there?
