Markakis???

Markakis???

Postby paul.czarnecki » Mon Mar 23, 2009 7:35 am

Granted, I drafted Markakis on my first 2008 team to be my leadoff guy, but, in 42 games, he hasn't hit one stinkin' home run?

Wow,
Can you post a link so we could see. Is he hitting for average? What park are you in? Ballparks can rob a lot of HRs, depending on the park.

Markakis doesn't have that many pure HR chances (2.55 vs, R; 1.8 vs. L) or BPHRs (2.5 vs. R; 2 vs. L), so it's not that surprising. This guy in our WBC league is using Markakis in super HR friendly US Cellular and he only had 3 HR through 41 games (he hit his 4th in game 42). As rmilter intimated, though, he is carrying a .299 average and a robust .405 OBP.

Markakis is an awesome bat to have in the leadoff spot or 2 hole, even more so in a pitchers' park. Seems to me the high price tag is for the 1 in RF and high OBP.

He does have a nice OBP. And he should have some HRs for you. I think you are just getting unlucky in that department.

Yeah, as I said, I wasn't expecting him to hit more than 15-18 HRs, but the rolls he's been getting have been awful.

pczarnecki, You will have to find a way to motivate Manny. He is not helping much. Manny is just being Manny
Maybe a fine would get his attention!

Yeah, neither Ramirez is helping me out. Outside of Berkman, no one is hitting. Still, I thought it was really odd that Markakis hasn't hit one HR in 45 games.
