Would You Make This Trade?

Would You Make This Trade?

Postby The Godfather » Mon Jun 29, 2009 10:48 am

For the 2008 set:

[u:ee455d6462]I Get[/u:ee455d6462]
LF - Manny Ramirez
2B - Orlando Hudson

[u:ee455d6462]I Give[/u:ee455d6462]
LF - Ryan Braun
2B - Chase Utley

My home park is Minute Maid. Braun did very well for me last time (48 HR, 128 RBI) but he barely had any HR's (or hits) during the last 25 games of the season and his season ending OBP plummeted to .295. I'm not sure how Ramirez has done with this set.

Same with Utley, I haven't really followed him. Ramirez would have to be a BIG upgrade over Braun to do this trade, because I don't think Hudson will provide close to the offense that Utley would, plus he would be a big injury risk. Or am I wrong?

Feedback is appreciated, I want to have this settled by this afternoon (our season starts tonight). As always, I appreciate your help!

I wouldn't make that trade unless I already had a _really_ good backup for Hudson. He has a 3 injury rating and will probably miss about 25-40 games over the course of a season. You'll need to add a 1M+ quality backup, so take that into consideration too. Hudson also has ZERO ballpark homers both ways, so he's a pretty bad fit for your park.

Do you have A-Roid on your team too? They might be able to learn from each other and enhance your team chemistry. ;)

Manny

.385 .506 .785

Those are Manny's numbers for me in Great American. It's only 21 games in but I thought he was one of the best values in the set. And you're getting the best player in the deal.

I would do it.

Ironically, before my season started I offered Manny and others in a deal for Utley and others. I was turned down and I'm glad I was.

Is this in our live draft league? I think the same guy offered me the same players for Roberts and Holliday, lol.

Just remember both Manny and Hudson usually miss some games due to injury with this year's cards.

FYI, I didn't make the trade. While Ramirez would have been an upgrade from Braun, I felt that I was giving up too much offense moving from Utley to Hudson. Ultimately, the injury concerns for Hudson/Ramirez tipped the scale.

Why is Manny listed as an injury concern? He has over 600 PA. If that is a concern for injury then there aren't many players not to be concerned about.

I think Manny had somewhere in the 550's. My concern wasn't as much with him as with Hudson. I could live with Manny missing 10 games, but I don't want to deal with replacing Hudson for more than that. Anyone else think I'm making a mistake?

You are right that Manny had 552 AB but you have to add in his walks which pushes him over the 600 PA plateau meaning that he can only miss 3 games at a time. Braun and Utley are in the same boat so the only injury concern would be Hudson.
