$100M 2009 2 1/2 Team Theme League - FULL

Postby Ducapa » Fri Mar 05, 2010 11:55 pm

I can only do a a couple of teams a year nowadays, and I always hated autodrafts. And although live drafts can be interesting, i've found themes based on actual teams to be more fun. Anybody have a new idea to start the season's first theme league. i know there always the default 2 team, or AL/NL team league but I'd like to get some ideas for a different theme and start a league up! Chime in!!

There's no way you'll make 12 competitive 140M teams.

A "dual franchise" league sometimes works well, although I don't think I'd have time to join now.

Do random draft order and divisions, then have a two-round snake draft of franchises.

For example, the first guy picks the Yankees, then he would have the 24th pick for another franchise.

Roster must consist of guys from the two teams he picks and he must use one of the two team stadiums.

I agree on the salary cap; I would set it at $100 million at most.

1/2 team drafts work well for this. Each manager selects 3 or 4 pitching teams, and 3 or 4 hitting teams. Plenty of talent to go around. 8-)

I like bigmahon's idea, drafting half teams only (pitching or hitting). What's wrong with $140M?? It just allows you to pull from your resources when needed. So lets say each owner drafts 5 half franchises (pitchers from one franchise or hitters from one franchise make up 1/2 franchise).
$140M Salary Cap, 5/10/20, DH, 4 round serpentine draft where each owner must draft at least one pitching and one hitting franchise. The 5th round can be hitting or pitching and will be determined by reverse salary order. So the owner that drafted the franchise with the lowest total salary drafts first in the 5th round. Also, trades are allowed and encouraged. Once you acquire a player via trade, you own the rights to that player and if dropped, that player can only be picked up by you unless he is traded again. The only FA pickups allowed are players from you drafted franchise that you have not traded away and any playes acquired via trade. Draft order determined by your state' next Pick 3 lotto number once the league is full. Lowest number drafts 1st.

The 1/2 team draft is a fun idea, but I still say 140M is too much. You have to think about making 12 competitive teams, not just 4 or 5. I'd drop it to $100M. Even 110 or 120 would be pushing it.

Didn't know you could have $110 or $120.......either way why do people car about the salary cap being too high so much? No salary cap in MLB, why here. If you draft well, you will have a good team no matter what the cap. I enjoy having the freedom no cap to limit your moves to get better......since the 140 is new this, why not give it a shot!!

People care about salary cap here because it actually correlates directly with ability. Some teams just have better/more expensive rosters. Drafting can help equalize some things, but not everything. Plus, like I said, you have to think about having 12 competitive managers, not just one. No one will be able to put together a $140M team. Think about it:

9 hitters @ 10M = 90M
4 starters @ 10M = 40M

Use the remaining 10M to fill out the roster.

Oh wait, there's one problem. There aren't even 9 10M hitters and there are 0 10M starting pitchers!!! The best teams will only be 110M or 120M, at best.

140M was designed for ATG, which has plenty of 10M-15M players.

Lets make it 80M so all 12 teams will have the same salary. I'd be in with that. It is no fun when a few teams may be able to put together 100M teams while some others are only at 90M. Also it doesn't count if you have 4-5M guys as back-ups. The starting lineups and pitching rotations have to be balanced to have a fair league.

I think 100M is the perfect setup for this type of league ... 80M and you might not get to use some of the guys you wanted to build around. Having a Pujols or Mauer almost cripples your team.
