Interstitial Ads - Bad Idea

Interstitial Ads - Bad Idea

Postby Al Hogg » Sat Apr 17, 2010 6:16 am

After I logged in today, I got an interstitial ad before I saw my team results. If this were a free game, OK. I feel like I'm paying enough, though, that I shouldn't have to be skipping through ads that I don't want to see. Just thought I would put a post to note that if this keeps up, it will pretty quickly turn me off of playing Strat-o-Matic.

All ads are irritating but if it prevents TSN from charging us more to play or if it gives them enough profit to continue offering this Strat game at all during this time when many people have less money to spend on entertainment like this, then I can live with it.

I agree regarding banner ads and others that I can choose to look at and click on. With interstitials, though, you either need to sit through the ad or actively click on it to skip it. That's not something I want to pay to be doing.

I have to agree, we shouldn't be paying $25 a pop to be interrupted like that.

I totally agree. If they're going to do stuff like this, they should at least explain why and how tight their money is to show why it's necessary.

I suspect this has more to do with the new owners looking to squeeze every last nickle out of us. Gross.

I spend A LOT of $$ on this game and generate a lot of business as well via my theme leagues. I am not happy about this!

Frankly...

...why would a business want to run interstitial ads anyway, considering they are probably the most hated advertising method since the invention of the Pop-up? I can hear the ad executives in the board room..."Let's associate our business with a negative emotion by using interstitial ads."

It has got to be most frustrating for folks that have scads of SOM teams to update and keep up with.

If you are paying for an online service, such as this game, the maximum allowable advertising ought to be a single static banner ad. If the game was free, then sure, advertise all over the page. But even ESPN's free fantasy games keep the 'clubhouse' advertising limited to a few nondescript Google sponsored links at the bottom of the page and an unobtrusive programming ad.

I agree...when I saw the ad last night multiple times while checking out my (single) SOM team, I was unnerved.

I WOULD agree, although I didn't have any ads this morning.

Maybe this is because I use Mozilla Firefox with the AdBlock turned on.

What is AdBlock on Firefox? There's a popup blocker, but that would kill the SOM card popups.
