Frank Thomas for Richie Sexson... should I do it?

Frank Thomas for Richie Sexson... should I do it?

Postby Jimbo1958 » Sat Mar 04, 2006 5:28 pm

Rookie manager needs sage advice...

The trade deadline is today and my brother has offered me Richie Sexson for Frank Thomas. My team leads its division and my brother is hoping for a wild card slot. The problem for my bro is that Sexson just got injured for 9 games, so he needs help ASAP.

I initially turned him because I wanted to stick with the players that got me to where I am. However, Sexson has power plus a better glove, which is important because my team is on pace to set a season record for fewest errors (only 35 after 141 games... the season record is 35). Nick Johnson could play first until Sexson comes back.

So, what do you say... keep Thomas or trade for Sexson?

Thanks.

You need Sexton for the playoffs. You just picked up Thomas two weeks ago. He is not the one that got you there.

Ignore the comments from buck1979. He's the brother I am talking about!

(Sorry, Paul. It looks like the deal is off unless some legitimate posts go your way!)

Two pointss

#1 My comments are legit for anyone analyzing the situation. You have a 10 game lead with 22 games to play so you have a lock on going to the playoffs. Therefore, the only thing to consider is the strength of your team in the playoffs.

Your secondary goal is to set a record for least amount of errors. Thomas provides no help here.

The best advice will help you win the playoffs. So who is better Sexson or Thomas in the playoffs ?

With this additional information does that change your mind BigMahon?

#2 For full disclosure purposes I am five games behind the wild card position and will drop Sexson if I don't get a trade. Any comments on Jamie Burke, who would play first and backup Cota who is on the DL almost as much as Sexson?

Umm, no.

Thomas is great value. He may not help with the error record, but he will help win the title. Unless he gets injured, but you got the same worry with Sexson.

But of course you know all this, which is why you want Thomas.

... but the experts have spoken. Nice try, but no deal. You can keep Saxson.

And don't go calling Mom and saying that I am being mean again!
