Stratomatic's Clutch Rating

Postby LMBombers » Thu Feb 01, 2007 5:21 am

[quote:0890d0fd45="marcus wilby"]The clutch rating makes the game more realistic AS LONG AS YOU PLAY THE GAME WITH 30 TEAMS, but NOT when it is played with 12 teams.[/quote:0890d0fd45]

The same could be said for ANY stat. The SOM cards are set up so that if you recreated the entire 162 game schedule playing that teams previous year's schedule the stats should be very similar. When you play in a league with 12 hand picked teams the stats could be different.

The above quote makes it sound like a 12 team league is played with all the best players that an owner can find. That is where the salary cap comes into play. The 80 mil salary cap is supposed to be able to mirror an actual team. So if you play in a league against 11 other typical teams (80M cap) then the stats are still supposed to be pretty close to real life. If the player salaries are off, either up or down, or if you play in a salary cap league either lower or higher then the results will be skewed.

I am not complaining about the system...it works as far as I'm concerned. All I know is that at the end of any season I have 4-5 of my core players who stats are with +/- 2% of RL regardless of competition and stadium factors. Let me put it this way...if it isn't working for us why have we played 100's of seasons?

My only gripe with clutch being used as an RBI adjustor is that no other stat gets the special treatment of the RBI. Why aren't pitchers' cards adjusted with men on base so their ERAs come closer to matching real life? Why not reduce the effect of clutch and help hitters with high totals of runs scored get on base more in certain situations to match their runs scored totals?
Why is this type of adjustment randomly chosen for only one stat?

What basically sucks for next season is this...

If I've got RISP with 2 outs, in the bottom of the 9th and I'm losing...

I'm better off with Hank Blalock or Marcus Giles hitting rather than Pujols or Hafner.

Please don't tell me about all the other hits on their (Pujols/Hafner) cards.

I'm just referring to the clutch rolls.

And this makes sense?

Actually, perhaps they are. Never wonder why some pitchers have full single**, while others have a lot of SI*, for no apparant reason? (the same is true for Double (lf) vs double**)
