You got rid of Manny and Ortiz?????

Did you even try to trade them?

One thing I don't like is your platoon @ DH. Pierre is good but you are going to have 4+ million on the bench 65-70% of the time in Nevin. You will face righty SP ususally 3-1 as opposed to lefty SP.

Remember- Petco will give all your SP a little boost. If I'm in Petco I only spend about $26 million on SP. You are going to need offence. It's probably too late but I would try and get either Manny or Ortiz back (or both) and get rid of Neven.

Hoffman will be fine in Petco but I agree with mtarbell....a set up man here is key. Get an R2! Love K-Rod and Gordon. Calero is probably you best option consitering $$.

I did trade Manny in a deal for Kotsay. I already had Pierre who is also suited well for my park so I have put him @DH due to his +3 arm.

I agreed that Manny's numbers would suffer grealty in my park and thought Kotsay was a much better fit. Plus he helps in CF.

Ortiz and Hafner are both in the waivers pool but I already have a DH (Pierre). I thought Ortiz was pretty useless vs LHP in Petco.

I currently have about 28 mil allocated towards pitching. I have Clemens as my ace and Pedro as my #2.

At this point I would turn Gload/Nevin into Ortiz. I would take my chances with the 5 at defence. As the team sits now...I don't see how you are going to score runs after Ichiro. LF is a big hole too.

You are spending too much money on your 4 & 5 SP. You could also turn your 3 BP arms into 2 better ones. I liked Hoffman. Just get him a set up.

Thanks Woody. I hear what your saying. I dropped Nevin and added Ortiz.

I am going to keep Gload in LF for now. I think he'll be okay and there aren't any good alternatives.

As for my pitching, I have a lot invested in Roger Clemens, Pedro and I added Matt Clement. My 4th and 5th starers will be a hodge-podge of Bonderman, Lowry and Milton.

In my bullpen I'll use Chad Cordero and G. Mota to both setup and close against R/L respectively.

Clement should keep opponent's hitting no more than .240 against him either side. He'll give up a couple homers to lefties, but I agree with prior post about pitching. I spent about 26 mil on folks like Greinke, Pettite, Burnette, Clement and was very happy in Petco...won division.

You run the danger otherwise of having a tough time scoring in your own park. In your home park you want to have the run differential edge. Studs like clemens will be great, but for the extra drop in ERA they may give you, you may be giving up too much in offense to make it economical. But you'll just have to see how it works out--post again and let everyone know!

Will do tersignf.

Would you mind posting your successful Petco team to the board? I would love to see it.

Cheers...Now I wouldn't recommend Wells with all the XBHs, but he was a forced choice (I had KBrown prior to that, and could be OK in the right situation). Folks like Milton, Wolf, etc would do fine for the same price or less. Not to confuse though--Pedro is ideal--don't get rid of him; he'll easily win 20 there.

Clement had an up and down year on the road, but was fine at home (had a Shea and Bank One in my division)

And if I had the choice, Berkman and Drew aren't the best fits, but in my situation they were fine and were both in the top 10 in RC. It's all context--you wouldn't want a whole team of folks that walk vs get hits in Petco, but you don't want a team of Jack Wilsons either.

Stats are thin on some folks because I made some midseason adjustments.

Just took a look at your updates...I think you need more righthanded pop in your lineup--a pure hitting type who could bat 3rd.

That's where Clemens is great, but for 4 mil you could maybe find a complement to Pedro and spend that extra cash on a good RH hitter. I'd upgrade Gload and Glaus or at least one of them. Did I read that right...Freel on the bench vs righties??? He needs to play against righties if he's on your team--28 hits and 48 OBs with great speed. But again, you already have speed and hits with pierre and suzuki et al, so that's where an upgrade comes in. If he's not in the lineup against RHs, you may as well trade him--there will be takers.

But that's just my take--remember though you'll be facing at least 2/3 righties, unless very strange circumstances, so take a look at your matchups!

Agree with prior post that your middle relief might need a boost.
