hafner mauer are both beasts in shea will have big numbers both obp and slugging morneau will hit for power also

I would get rid of westbrook and halliday and replace them with villone and maroth

people love escobar in shea but he was dreadful for me and is 4-14 in shea in the league I am in now

Go back to qk's post earlier. He is THE expert at Shea. Forsake all others. C Guillen at SS. Matsui, Drew, BJ all good pickups. Koskie also. Not much OBP but a lot of pop. Villone/Ledezma, i dunno. OK wither way I think. Dropping Mauer you will find a lot of opposition on these boards. He is some peoples top 2 or 3 draft picks. Can't disagree. Yes, you need to now balance your lefties with some righties. Make them pay for pitching weak lefty after weak lefty at you. Oh yes, Klesko good pickup. IB or DH hit him 5-7 positive clutch. Will drive in a lot of runs and he hits lefties. But go back and read qk's post. As I said, he is da man at Shea.

1. Not too good to have a 3 @ SS. He'll give up too much.

2. Have Matsui hit both ways. Lou Merloni is a good hitter @ Shea. Is Eric Young available? Jay Payton as well.

3. Kerry Robinson gives you speed, a good hitter vs. RH's and decent enough fielder.

4. Keep Escobar. Ortiz is a walking (BB) machine.

If Renteria is available, go get him. He is a great Shea SS and you have enough pop vs RH after waivers.

I would swap out Olivo as Mauer's backup though. One of my favorite moves is to get G Laird, who has a very decent card vs LH but also has a high injury roll. I like that combo with Mauer, because if Laird is hurt, Mauer will play more, and Mauer batting 7th or 8th vs LHP is not bad since it keeps his bat in the game vs RH RPs. Follow me there? Then I would spend some money to upgrade at 1B/DH (assuming Klesko fills one of those spots).

If u can get Renteria & Laird, I would go with these lineups:

vs RH:
Klesko
Drew
Mauer
Matsui
new 1B/DH
Koskie
Finley
Castillo

vs LH:
Castillo
Drew
Renteria
DH/1B
Cabrera
Klesko
Laird
Matsui
Finley

I like the Mauer/Laird combo.

My ONLY knock against this is when/if Mauer goes down for 15 games. Laird then has to hit against RH's, where IMHO his card is terrible.

Sorry, Grissom is a waste there, and the Laird/Mauer combo only makes sense if you DON'T carry a 3rd C, because a 3rd C means Mauer can still get injured when Laird is hurt. What SoCalChiro said is true, but in the end you're going to have someone crappy vs. RHP batting anyway, so Laird not a big deal. The advantage of using a high-injury roll C with Mauer is that if you ONLY carry 2 Cs on the roster, HAL will only injure one of them at any given time, so if Laird is batting & goes down for 15 gms, even if you hit Mauer's injury roll he'll shake it off & stay in the game.

Grissom is a waste due to high # of BP HRs that will die in Shea, same for Inge, I don't use either there. Use high double/low BP HR guys like Renteria, Merloni, etc. You need to improve your pen, and use cheaper platoons vs. LHP. Castillo & Drew provide good OBP vs LH, and Renteria/Klesko nice XBHs to drive in runs, Laird also, so you just need a couple of decent sub $2M bats to hit lefties well enough to win, and they should have decent clutch if possible.

So if you replace Inge & Griss with guys totaling $3M, you'll have $2.5 more with which to upgrade the pen or 1B or both....

You might try looking into some guys like Yorvit Torrealba at catcher, Jason Giambi at 1B, Lou Merloni and Eric Young as utility players, and possibly Hiram Bochachica in the outfield. They're all modestly priced and hit the crap out of left handed pitching.

Looks to me like you're planning on starting Ryan Klesko at first base - another option if you are able to clear the cap space would be Phil Nevin. The guy bats right handed, and will kill the cheap lefties when they come to down. He could play 1B or DH.

Bob Wickman is going to kill you. He's 9R, and you might want that on the road, but HAL is going to see him quivering at the end of the bench, probably out of utter fear, and throw him to the wolves in the sixth inning - you know, like a kid with a magnifying glass torturing an ant.

Just my thoughts.
