Carmona For 7 Million?

I like Taveras in general, but his OBP vs righties is a little bit low for a leadoff hitter, IMO. He's really quite good for the money, but do you have anyone else who could hit leadoff?

Strat is strange. My observation is that Carmona is the best pitcher available at any price, and easily worth the 7. I have him on two teams right now:

8-1, 1.62 ERA, on a team that is 23-22
13-2, 2.74 ERA, on a team that 33-33

That is and overall record of 21-3 on teams that are playing .500 ball!!!! How are you going got top that?

I do not like to disagree with the experts. But I am not so sure that Carmona is ,"Overpriced". Is he anymore overpriced than a 7 million dollar first baseman, compared to a 4 to 5 million dollar first baseman? I guess it depends on the type of team you want to build ,and the stadium you are using.

It took me a long time to figure out stadium strategy. As a kid growing up, we never played with unique stadiums. So it took me a minute to figure things out. And I am still learning. I believe there are several ways to build your team around your stadium(or pick your stadium based on your team), and an important factor is; what the salary cap, or theme of the league is.

I agree with my buddy, rmilter. You definitely have to build around the right stadium and salary cap. However, tplatypi, I think you may be in the minority, as Carmona has not lived up to his card in any of the leagues I've been in so far. To me, I would have to conclude that he is overpriced, because I have not seen firsthand evidence of him consistently being the #2 pitcher in the league. That being said, Peavy is even more overpriced because of how much more $$ he is. Peavy has been near the league leaders in many categories in most of my leagues, but he isn't head and shoulders above everybody like his price suggests. Here are Carmona's stats for three leagues (the 3rd one still has 18 games left to play):

16-17 4.29 ERA, 1.29 WHIP League leaders - 24 W, 3.67 ERA, 1.13 WHIP

17-15 3.85 ERA, 1.22 WHIP League leaders - 20 W, 3.18 ERA, 1.12 WHIP

10-10 4.34 ERA, 1.36 WHIP League leaders - 20 W, 3.53 ERA, 1.06 WHIP
