A potentially serious bug

Maybe the bug is in the game report syntax. Maybe the h&r result was a single (batter out at second), not a fly out.

0 1 R.Winn h&r Fly Out (RF) 1-3 b-0 fly(RF)x

equals

0 1 R.Winn h&r Single (RF) 1-3 b-0 fly(RF)x

You might check the part of the game engine that translates h&r results into words in the game report, to see if a failed stretched-single is reported as a fly out.

wachovia (soon to be citibank?),

That is a good idea.

However I went through the boxscore, and Winn had a homerun in the 3rd inning. If the hit & run was truly a single, with him out trying to stretch it into a double, then Winn would have been listed as 2-for-4 in the summary on top. However, Winn is shown as 1-for-4.

I meant to include the corollary (which is probably far-fetched): maybe the box score tallies game report results as part of the same routine that translates the play-by-play. So the single wouldn't show up in the 1--for-4.

The super advanced fielding chart is a two-step process. First you get the result of the play (fly out, single, whatever) and then you roll three dice to see if there is an error. If you roll a 5 (total of three dice), it's an unusual play. (There is a different unusual play for each of the original results.) Unfortunately, I don't actually have a super advanced fielding chart; I just remember this from a friend's chart who has since moved away.

The fact that it was a hit and run is irrelevant once the FB(RF) X is rolled. On a hit and run play, white dice rolls of 1, 2, and 3 use the hit and run chart, and white die rolls of 4, 5, and 6 are read off the pitcher's card. On pitcher card results, I believe walks and strikeouts and turned into ground outs, runners advance. Other results are unchanged. (So don't be surprised if you get a homerun someday off of a hit and run!)

Can someone who has the board game in their possession please verify all this?

Hey guys this is word for word off the super advanced fielding chart on the outfielders page....One of the things that can happen is a F1 RP (Fly out, runner advances 2 bases, Rare Play). Here is what it says...

F1--RP
The outfielder races back to the wall and makes a diving catch, but ends up colliding with the wall! He holds onto the ball but is dazed. All baserunners tag up and advance TWO bases before the outfielder recovers enough to throw the ball back to the infield.

This would be the explanation you're looking for I would think. Hope that helps.
