Joe Morgan

I agree with Keyzick!

Morgan is quite articulate, I just don't think he has much to say. I actually started a post about Morgan's announcing skills some time ago, but doubt that I would ever find it on the boards now.

For the people who do not like Joe Morgan, who are the good baseball analysts in your opinion? Joe may come of as confident(in my opinion, not arrogant) but who are the analysts who are knowledgeable, and not arrogant? Peter Gammons?

I very much disagree with the statement that he does not have much to say. He is a Hall of Famer, with a wealth of baseball stories and knowledge. Compared to ever football, basketball, and most baseball announcers he is down right humble , and more than intelligent enough.

The football guys are the worst! Cramming their macho B.S into every analysis. Just count how many times Mark Schlerith, or any of those yahoos say football field, or football team, or football game. It is as if they did not say football in every sentence we would think we were watching baseball, or soccer. Why can't they just say field, ball, or team, instead of football team, football field, or football game? It is some kind of macho B.S. were they think the more times they can cram the word football into a sentence the tougher they will sound. In my opinion all the baseball guys are way better than the football announcers!

The best Morganism. "When I played we used to call the basket in the Wrigley outfield Bank's Basket because he hit so many homers into it."

Ernie Banks hit one basket shot in his entire carear.

I agree. But some of these people who really do not like Joe Morgan will not name an announcer they do like, as I asked them to. I guess they think they would be better analysts than Joe Morgan. And if they really believe that he is awful, and they could do better, they probably also believe that they could have been better players than Joe Morgan.

So I will ask you one more time; for the people who do not like Joe (for whatever reason, be it perceived arrogance, lack of knowledge, no sense of humor, or skin color, is he too uppity for you???) whom do you like??

It is baseball on TV, he has to talk about something. He is also human, and being human he will not be perfect all of the time.

I only wish we could let some of us Strat geeks sit in Joe's seat for a few games and see how good we are.

Compared to all the other sports announcers the baseball guys in general (and particularly Joe)are way better than the basketball and football analysts.

If he said what you say he said, the way he said it(and I am not totally convinced that he did, or that you heard it right) then he exaggerated or made a mistake. That is something humans are known to do, even if they are very knowledgeable people and Hall of Fame players. I am quite sure if we had thousands of hours of you talking baseball during thousands of games you might make a mistake or two, or even exaggerate a point once in awhile. Or maybe not. Can we get you an interview with ESPN? Because I am sure you are the one human that could speak flawlessly about baseball for many, many hours every week. I just know it! The World is being deprived of your and many others baseball knowledge because some know nothing, uppity hack, named Joe Morgan is ESPN's number one baseball analyst.

That is already being done very well by Jon Miller.

as far as announcers, i, like i suspect most fans, watch their local teams on their local cable/sat. provider. so if i say i like "pick a team" announcers, most on the forum wouldn't have heard them do a game. local teams will also swap their radio and tv announcers for a few innings. i rarely watch the national tv games.
