2007 100m Live Draft - playing

[quote:1a57969ccf="Ducapa"]Didn't know we had any rules about drops. If it is a problem for people, we should have made a rule at the beginning. The players that get dropped are made available again so if somebody really wants them, they can find a way to pick them up, right? Anyway, sorry if that was a problem.[/quote:1a57969ccf]

No that's not the case. 1st of all, the player who gets dropped will not necessarily be available by the time he gets around to a manager's next pick (ie.. in my case I can't grab Cuddyer with my 16th round pick because I need to pick my stadium... but perhaps I would have grabbed him with my 13th, 14th or 15th round pick had he been available at the time). Secondly, we build our draft strategy based upon who the other manager's have selected and by who's left available in the player pool. Dropping a player just because a manager changes his mind does more than just change his roster, it also effects the rest of the league in their draft selections.

I guess I just figured that it goes without saying that you can't just drop a player 4 rounds later because you've changed your mind (or becasue you might see that the way the draft has developed, you're better off going with a different option). Pretty much defeats the whole purpose of holding a live draft.

As for the Morneau drop: Say Morneau would have been available when my pick came around in the 3rd round, I may have selected him. But since he was dropped after my pick , and subsequently picked by another manager, my option of getting him had been eliminated.

In both cases you guys should have been forced to work the trade route.

Sorry, like I said nothing was clear and the site allows drops. Next time lets spell it out in the beginning. The reason I did it is two-fold, one the player I replaced Cuddyer with I had not seen as being available when I picked Cuddyer, must have missed his card. Second, I had been drafting fairly pricey players b/c I just finished up a $200M draft where salary is not an issue...was almost in that mindset with this draft and realized I needed a salary cut. It had nothing to do with what anybody else picked, or any strategy of that type. Sorry if I messed up anybody's plans....if anybody was planning on taking Cuddyer rigth after I did or Escobar in the last round let me know and we can work something out.
Anyway, draft is rolling again. Hopefully we can bang this last round out soon.

Woah I dunno about Cuddyer and I agree 4 rounds later is tacky I would have taken Cuddyer too, but Morneau should have been available to you. When I asked for a drop only one person had picked past me, I'll double check the times, but I got on that quickly.

OK I checked, You could have picked him Coffee, the only player who had picked already was wwwetz when I asked for a drop and he did not voice up that he wanted him after I posted it here and Morneau was only drafted be cause I forgot to click a Y box and delete after Ortiz was drafted. That is hardly a crime.

Turtle, my examples were meant to be more rehtorical (I think that's the word) than factual, and you will notice that I didn't bring this up after your drop of Morneau (because at least there was a logical excuse for the drop).

There was actually one other drop that Ducapa made during this draft (besides Cuddyer), but I'm not sure of who was involved?

I believe a couple other owners had drops, E. Chavez was dropped several rounds later. My first drop Kearns was a mistake, honestly picked the wrong guy and was requested one or two picks after the fact.

It's rhetorical, but I do agree with Coffee, I've noticed a few players that I would have liked to have drafted (ie. Endy Chavez) earlier, ended up taking someone else, swearing that I had seen him drafted. :? I ended up taking him anyway, but I now have a surplus of outfielders. No big deal, just my two cents.

...And if I can pipe in once more, I could have used Morneau, because I'm in a league with the same stadium, and he is just tearing it up at home. I did notice you had taken three first basemen (Turtle), but who knew you were going to drop Morneau.

Thank you for helping to illustrate my point.

Ducapa, I'm sorry if I've singled you out on this, and I totally missed the Chavez drop (I just noticed Terry's switch after your post), but this was also a no-no.

Bottom line is that in live drafts using this site, drops need to be handled with extreme delicacy. Generally they are only allowed at the discretion of the league Commish. Huntthis... it might be the appropriate time for you to chime in as I believe the integrity of the draft is in danger of being comprimised.
