Am I on pace for the best '06 record yet, with my first team?

Well....Branyan went down for 15 games, and with only 60 left and his 3 INJ to worry about for the playoffs I decided to replace him vs R at 3B....his replacement, Atkins, is decent vs R at best, but he's a L that I COULD use vs LHP in certain playoff situations, and allows me to get....Duffy over Rowand - small defensive downgrade, although arm was barely upgraded. But Duffy's hitting is WAY superior to Rowand's, and I'm going to be facing even more RHP vs LHP down the strech and into the playoffs then before. Rowand WAS injured, but was doing nothing with his stick. If Duffy is injured for 5-10 games I might have to go with Pierre in CF, who isn't bad offensively, and will steal some bases for me as a pinch runner I really needed the average that Duffy brings to my team, I hate seeing runners in scoring position when the inning ends.

Basically I decided to replace Branyan after long debate with myself  , mostly because this could happen AGAIN along with the fact that he's missing 25% of the the rest of the regular season games, and there were VERY few choices at 3B vs RHP. Branyan was horrible vs LHP, and Atkins is E, so at least when a LHRP comes in, Atkins won't be an auto-out like Branyan. Still have the amazing David Bell vs LHP at 3B and as a defensive sub.

Duffy's hitting trumps Rowands, so although I have a slight downgrade in defense, I got a offensive upgrade, and a nice new pinch runner who can hit well for average.

ahs - i like your team a lot. i like it a little less after those moves you just explained, but that probably was the right move with branyan going down for 15. dont let these guys bash you, its a very good team.

as for if i think its overperforming? well any team that is playing about 660 ball probably is.

nonetheless, i think you have reason to brag about this team...not that my vote counts for anything.

one other comment. i think you have fully utilized the players you have with the stadium you have, which i believe is being overlooked by the people critiquing at your team. just a thought...

Thanks Spicki! Really appreciate it....my runs scored/allowed ration of about 600-400 shows it is not getting lucky in games...maybe a little bit in ROLLS but I really don't think too much, thanks ALOT though, I think I've utilized them well too, platoons can be very very deadly especially in hitters parks, more people should do it...or not :D

I have a 105 win team. Lost in the semis of course.

Good luck the rest of the way.

[quote:eb6fb73372="ahsbball05"]My goal of this post was to find out what the record for wins in a season is. [/quote:eb6fb73372]

If the quote above were completely true, your team wouldn't have entered the equation. Because a lot of people spend a lot of time and find contrary to your assumption that the game is easy that there are quite a few variables in building an outstanding team, it shouldn't be a surprise that some posters nit picked your team.

Having said that. Congratulations on a great start to your season. My first team ('05) won 105 in the regular season and went 7-1 in the playoffs. I had 1. the right mix on the team, 2. the right mix in my division, 3. a stadium that lent well to the card set, and 4. a heck of a lot of luck.

Oh, and I haven't gotten back to the finals yet.

I lost game seven of the finals with my second team. I haven't been back yet.

I've never won 100 games either.

Ok, I'm not going to lie, I was proud at how well my team was doing also, and wanted to "show it off" but I really did also want to know the top wins, and 105 is very good, it's going to be close to see if I can do that...I DID lose my first series out of 8 last night so I'm kinda bummed, only 6 runs and 20 hits all series, but it can't be because of my changes because atkins did well with a HR, and duffy is better offensively then rowand, so i'm not worried.

It's too bad that the 2nd best team in the league is in my division also, but it does help that the other teams have only 76.5(2nd best team), 71.5, and 64 million to work with, as opposed to my 78.5 in salaried players.

That's another huge reason lots of players/new players struggle, there's not possible way that your 65 million roster can beat our 80 million rosters! You pretty much cannot drop players unless it's because of INJURY, HUGE HUGE underperformance(which you can't claim for every player on your team at 1 time or another :D ), or for MATCHUPS vs your division/playoff opponents. It's better to become a less balanced team and make the playoffs, then stay balanced and miss them. I'm all for changes around game 130 for the last 32 games that are all against your division ONLY IF you need to make up some ground or keep a slim lead. There's no point in a runaway team making changes, as I'm not going to unless there's another huge injury.....I'm 15 games IN the playoffs right now.

And if you pay more attention and do that math on the cards at the beggining, most of the time half the players on your team won't be "underperforming"

Not sure where all that came from, just trying to give some advice to teams that do too much dropping, because it kills!

Ash you say "there's no point in a runaway team making changes". Then, why did you make the changes to your team? Clearly, your team would be defined as "runaway" and in no jeopardy of missing out on the playoffs. Why do you care if Branyan gets hurt for another 15 games? Your team is already in the playoffs so who cares. Just start benching your injury prone players around game 147 and you'll be fine. Also, if your logic for dropping Branyan was the injury factor, why pick up Duffy (who has the same injury roll)? Also, I think you've dropped a significant amount of power from your lineup. That could hurt you given the fact that you play in a hitters park. I'm not trying to give you a hard time. I'm just trying to understand why someone who could potentially break the record for wins would disrupt the team.
