Good finally getting a lead off hitter. Hope they use him in LF with that lack of a throwing arm. Use Hairston in CF bat Pierre 1st and Hariston 2nd.

Bad: Not firing Baker so he will screw things up again.
Not getting Furcal.
Letting Burnitz go so now no lefty power hitter.
Not getting a legit closer.

a weak arm will hurt you more in LF than it does in cf......

now just some random opiniion....

have to love what the blue jays have done so far.....as a Red Sox fan now i have to worry about 2 teams......yanks and jays.......

mets have made some popular moves.....still not impressed with their pitching staff
especially the bullpen , though obviuosly wagner will be huge

im optomistic about what the Red sox have done so far,but wondering how manny and damon will fit into all of this...and also hoping there is sometihng to the tejada rumors....

At this point it now looks like Bost might keep both Manny and Damon. I haven't heard the Tejada rumors but that would be nice. If that doesn't materialize I think they may still try to get Lugo out of Tampa. I like Lugo very much. How bout this lineup?

SS Lugo
2B Loretta
LF Manny
DH Ortiz
C Varitek
RF Trot
3B Lowell
1B (who knows)
CF Damon

I know this lineup might work in SOM World but not in real life when you have human beings to deal with. Damon would never consider batting 9th.

If they get Tejada they would break all offensive records with this lineup

CF Damon
2B Loretta
LF Manny
DH Ortiz
SS Tejada
C Varitek
RF Trot
3B Lowell
1B (who knows)

No way. LF arm doesn't need to be strong which is why they put weak armed, weak gloved hitters in LF. Just look at distances between LF and 2B and 3B. Then look at distances between CF and 2B and 3B. Strongest arm in RF, then CF, then if you have another arm, LF.[/quote:012bfee913]

But a lot of shorter throws is still shorter throws.

Hey LM, I believe the Tejada to Boston rumors involve trading Manny to Baltimore - so, unfortunately, we wouldn't get to see Ortiz, Manny, and Tejada killing teams in the same lineup. That would be fun, though.

And I have to say that I am worried for Toronto. They just committed $102 million to a starter with more losses than wins (even with the Marlins, who have been competitive since he's been around) and a closer who's only closed for a season and could get lit up in Fenway and Camden Yards, not to mention by the Yankees bats.

W/L means nada to me. Burnett can pitch. If he stays healthy he'll earn his contract, his stuff is killer. It's all about the arm....

I grew up an O's fan before coming to the West Coast, and am afraid Tejada has a point. If the G's had anything to trade, they should go after him. They shoulda landed him instead of the O's anyway as their stud of the future to take over the crown from Barry. Alou would manage him well & RH power does better in the park in SF then LH (with Bonds the exception in any park of course....)

Anyway, one can always dream....

Very true. Wins and losses shouldn't even come into consideration when evaulating a pitcher. Too many variables outside of the SP's control to effectively determine how a pitcher has done in the past. I like Burnett. Good move by the Jays. The B.J. Ryan contract, however, is another story. Way too much money for a closer.

As a Giants fan, I too have been disappointed they haven't made more moves to secure a corner IF. I was hoping maybe they could use Alfonso and/or Feliz as trade bait. The Giants desparately need another slugger to protect Bonds. I think there pitching will actually be okay, especially if I pick up Morris. I think he'd do very well in SBC Park (or whatever they're going to call it next year). Much better than the head case Tomko. Although that all depends on whether Schmidt can come back and pitch better than last year.

As a Brewers fan as well, I was hoping they could of gotten more in return for Overbay. We'll see how the trade turns out, but many were criticizing the Brewers on the Sexson trade a few years back and we all see how that turned out. But at least the Overbay trade opens up 1B for the Prince. :)
