Most loved/hated 2005

Always funny to see these lists. Lost of negative comments against Escobar but I've seen in in the NLD league of vets for 4 seasons now and he's performed admirably. Not RJ like mind you, but defintly a keeper.

Anyway 5 I like, and 5 I hate.

okay 6 I Like:

Matt Wise, guys needs a good pen because he's only an S5, but always seem to pitch like a 6mil pitcher

David Newhan LOVE this guy always performs

Ross Gload, the gbA's scare people, but stick him in the 5 hole and watch that clutch rating come into play. Even though he has high gbA's I've never had him be on the high DP's list anytime I've had him.

JD Drew, expensive yeah, but is always top 10 RC/27 and usually top 5.

Mora hit him at the top of the order and watch him score runs and drive them in too. Only wish he were a 2 at 3b

Francisco Cordero, he's only an R1 closer, but he consistanly out performs guys that cost twice as much.

5 I LOATHE

Westbrook, really think his card is coded wrong cause this guy get ROCKED HARD even in petco

Livan Hernandez- See above

Ben Sheets, maybe it's just my leagues, but this guy can't seem to WIN. puts up great stats, low ERA high SO's but for me NEVER gets the W's

Jeter, priced about 2mil more than he should be never quite seems to hit his card

Jack Wilson he's SUPPOSED to have the best slugging for his position but he ALWAYS sucks usually hits around .210 even if he faces twice as many rh pitchers as lefties

Love
Carlos Gullen-his O seems to make up hor his terrible D for me. I'm 4-0 making the playoffs with him on my team and 2-6 without.

Speaking of 3s at SS, has anyone used M. Young? He is simply raking on my cd rom replays, but I've hardly seen him used at all in the leagues I've been in.

Also love
Jake Peavy
Mora
Ramiro Mendoza-most must think he's too pricey-but plays really well for me.

I like the idea of not only naming the cards that you like, but the cards you dislike. I haven't seen a thread like this yet.

1. Johan Santana - even if he doesn't post the best W/L record, I can tell just by looking at his stats that he's doing his job. It's not his fault if his team isn't scoring any runs.
2. Billy Wagner - Bottom line, this guy is lights out. He's an R1 closer, but even when he's tired, even against his weak side, he's better than most. Love having him in my 'pen.
3. Jeromy Burnitz - 35+ homers for me regardless of park, and I've had him hit over 50 in Shea. At $4.41, that's more than a bargain in my book!
4. Glendon Rusch - Since several of my teams have been in Shea, I have seen some really good seasons out of Rusch. The guy has been better than solid for me.
5. Chone Figgins - Angel's fans should forget all about the Rally Monkey and start waving Chone's bobblehead in the stands. Figgins has been almost a good luck charm for me this year, and I've started him in leftfield and at third base.

1. Juan Pierre - He blazes on the basepaths and slaps a ton of singles. He throws like a girl, has no power, and he needs to have a high batting average to have a high OBP. Arm's too weak for the field, bat's too weak for DH. Give me Scott Podsednik and my money back.
2. Roy Oswalt - had him for the first half of one season in Comerica (COMERICA), where he should have done well. At mid season I traded him for some offense, and my previously mediocre team won the whole shebang. (Replacement starter: Mike freakin' Wood)
3. Juan Rivera - Decent OBP, little bit of pop, cannon for an arm... and the only way he would end up on my team after the draft is if I lost out on Manny or Vlad. That said, every time I saw him on my team post-draft, he was the first to go. Never used him, never wanted the reminder that I missed out on my big hitter.

I'm a pretty positive player, so I can really only name three guys that I would never use again (unless I was going to use Pierre on a team taking aim at the stolen base record).

Interesting thread.

Keepers
1 H Matsui - ANY park
2 Mahay/Looper setup combo.
3 Santana - fantastic
4 Burke - high obp good clutch
5 C Guillen - nobody takes him but man does he hit
6 Sexson - in a hitters park, low obp 2nd in HR

Throw Backs
1 Clemens/Zambrano - not worth it
2 Varitek - won't ever draft again
3 J Rivera - not worth .50
4 S Kline - real life and Strat

Favorites:
Billy Wagner( no better closer)
B.J. Ryan (worth every penny to relieve)
Tom Gordon (bottom line, he does his job)
Freddy Garcia (good value)
Mark Kotsay (good value)
Aaron Rowand (good Value)
Bobby Abreu ( great OBP regardless where)
Larry Walker (despite his injuries, on two teams for me, he has out produced most others on my teams)
Vladimir Guerrero (great offensive numbers)

Least Favorites:
Kris Benson
Mark Mulder
Tim Hudson
Omar Vizquel
Doug Davis
Hank Blalock

3. Adam Kennedy: I've had him on more teams than I would like for lack of better options, but I know that not only will he underperform for me during the season, he'll be injured just in time for the playoffs. He's my kiss of death.

And of course, the same night, Adam Kennedy goes down for 15 games, game 141 mind you, but I'm sure he'll return just in time to go down for the playoffs as well.

Unreal!! NEVER AGAIN!!!

Another interesting thread might be who doesn't do well for you but goes off against you.

I disagree about J.Rivera being overvalued. He provided one of my Petco team same stats as Beltre. Good proportions of single** and single (lf) which drive runs---no wonder why he finished 100 rbis and .300.---and he comes with excellent defense. One of my fav.

A bit for the same reason, I like Estrada a lot.

Helton is one I would never draft. Actually, almost all the "reverse-lefty" first-basemen should stay in the pool, in my opinion, starting with Helton, Broussard, Gload. Even Casey appears to me too costly.

If I need reverse-lefty, I prefer to rely on other positions---cf, lf, 2b, 3b.

(talking about players who you don't draft, but who goes against you, Helton is driving one of my team nuts with his stellar performance for a team in front of me. An exception.)

Oswalt is one pitcher I don't draft. Appears to me that it's rather innings than quality that costs you 6M++

Phelps is another one that I don't draft anymore. Great stats vs lhp, but I've never seen Mr. Hal pinch-hit for him when a right-handed reliever comes in the game. Ends up with 40% of at-bats vs rhp. THAT drives me nut.
