Sykes, you are so right about the phone answering at SOM. I stopped ordering online after the security issues a couple years back. (I know they changed it, but I am still wary). The other amazing thing is the envelope I get my book in has my name scribbled on the front, (mispelled, by the way). You would think they could at least use a computer to print out address labels. I know it is a small company, but with all the technology today, it is easy to make a small company seem like a big leaguer.

No offense to the folks at TSN, but imagine what SOM could be if it got press from the ESPN website and incorporated additional features like Penn's draft and auction sites. My god. Cash cow. Mooooooooooooooo! :wink:
Nothing wrong or broken with the game itself. It just needs the web-friendly makeover. With revenue from addition baseball sales on the web for a web based game like we have, they could expand and refine the football, basketball and hockey products. Eventually they could even do college if they had they minds opened.

I agree with all of the above. I'm in a 18 team face to face league here in the NY-NJ area and we all order directly from SOM headquarters and go there frequently to pick up cards, supplies, etc. I swear, I think they don't have but 3 or 4 different people working there. Many of us have complained to SOM about their customer service, their website (straight out of the early 90's) and their operation in general, but our complaints have fallen on deaf ears.
I have no proof of this, but I really believe that Hal Richman, in some crazy way, thinks that the old school way he runs his business adds to the "charm" of his product. Ever see the box the board game comes in? The photos on the boxes are from the 70's for crying out loud. Actually, the box really is not even that big an issue. Some people may even find that to be nostalgic. But the service, the website, marketing, etc. has no excuse for being stuck in a time warp. Time to get up to date, Hal!

stoney, you are right. Looking at the OB numbers vs RH pitchers, the top ones are all your clearcut 3 & 4 hole sluggers. Only guy I spotted with decent OB numbers both sides, without a ton of total bases is Brian Giles.
Also looks like this year will see the return of the lefty killers. Depends on the salary structure, but by the numbers seems like a good number of players that will kill LHP. Haven't had much chance to look at pitchers, but Clemens looks unhittable as Sp. In the pen Wagner, and Rivera look to have pretty killer cards.

Lofton looks better than a lot of other options. I wonder if he'll be a bargain (OB/TB each side).

vs-L: 37/40
steal = A *4,5/- (19-13)
B. Clark (Mil):
vs-R: 42.8/37.7
vs-L: 47.4/39
steal = C *2-6,12/8,10 (15-6)
As seen in the year of the platoon thread, I think to really get the offense you want throught a lineup, you will be looking for a lot of productive, cost effective (if not cheap) platoons.
Both players above are good examples. They might work okay if an opposite side reliever comes in (i.e. Lofton starts vs right, & a lefty is brought in), but 37 OB chances L vs L isn't going to cut it. Perhaps a pair like this where Lofton leads off vs R, bats 2nd vs L, and vice versa would be the ticket.
