The Secret Formula 2004 (1st in runs scored w/ 936, 1st in earned runs allowed w/ 619).

Started season 50-14 on pace to score like 1.27 trillion runs.

Unfortunately HAL has started to taketh away. My team has slumped, losing 7 of last 8 games. I did not match J-Pav's team's start, as my team is now 47-19.

I'm thinkin after you go 43-11 it's not exactly downhill but anti-climactic for sure.

Great job of putting together a team that I'm sure many will be emulating.

Congratulations on putting together a great team. Luck is always a factor, but you can not win that many games without skill and expertise. Good luck in the playoffs Biomechanical Man.

Best start, saddest finish

Postby The Biomechanical Man » Fri May 20, 2011 9:13 am

My kick-a$s team has finished it's season. I wish I could say that the ending of the story was as sweet as the beginning, but it's not.

Horace Mann Ten-Timers
..............................W.....L...Pct
Smoking Hot start...43...11..0.796
Mid-season.............54...42..0.563
[u:210578dd09]Resting at end..........6....6...0.500 [/u:210578dd09] (Benched injury-prone hitters to keep for playoffs)
[b:210578dd09]Total....................103..59...0.636[/b:210578dd09]

So in the playoffs I was facing Woods' squad. Woods is an old friend, back from our days of playing Strat with cards and dice in high school. If you look closely, this was a perfect match for my team. I have a bunch of lefty hitters and my whole team bats better against lefties. I have a good amount of lefty pitchers. Woods' pitching staff is LH SP who are better against righties, and his team does not hit well against lefties. The regular season proved that this was a good matchup; I won all 12 games we played! Woods did not beat me once. So what happened in the playoffs? Woods won 4 of 6 games and knocked me out.

Is it just sample size or is it HAL? The 100+ wins team (AND dominator of said playoff team in the regular season) getting the early playoff boot happens too much it seems to be a coincidence. But what do I know.

So you don't get a single credit?

Man, that is a tale of woe.

On the plus side, I now know who Horace Mann was. If it makes you feel any better, my two most dominant teams of all time (110 wins each) got knocked out in the first round as well. It does seem like bad luck sometimes to win that many because in the near coin flip of the playoffs, losing hurts that much more.

[quote:3caad41005="apolivka"]Well, every time this kind of "streak" or "governor" talk starts up, I have to bring up this team (not mine):

It started off 37-0
Went through a slacker phase and dropped to 59-3
Then reeled off 100 straight wins to finish up 159-3

http://fantasygames.sportingnews.com/stratomatic/team/team_other.html?user_id=80041

Yes, it was a total theme league, and completely unfair. It was an '86 league where the real object of the league was to lose as many games as possible. So, basically, we had 11 teams filled up with as many .50 cent rejects as possible. Then, we had one team that loaded up on every good player to see if it could go 162-0, and it came pretty close. It had a run differential of 1297 runs and only gave up 145 earned runs all year, but did manage to lose 3 games.[/quote:3caad41005]

You took over Nicole's team didn't you? Checking the stat board:

adam_polivka has a win % of .762, have to assume this include the super team.

So, this might be worthy of a new thread, but who had a team with the most regular season wins but lost in the first round of the playoffs (and thus no credits)? Preferably non-theme leagues. I've got a good candidate, but I'd like to see what else is out there.
