[quote:e7d8c0f7b8]We will do a lottery to select drafting position and division placement since the in the initial draft we are all going for the same limited free agent pool[/quote:e7d8c0f7b8]

I thought that meant we were doing a live draft for the remaining players from non franchise teams. Did not think it was an auto draft. What did you mean by a lottery for drafting position?

Lottery for draft placement and division alignment

Postby 2cityfan » Tue Jun 19, 2007 2:42 pm

The lottery would be used to seed our placement in the initial autodraft.. If you are the first team in the East, you will get the #1 overall pick.. so if all 12 of use want the same highly desired free agent player in the autodraft, whoever gets lottery pick #1 will get them... The order we enter our teams in the league determines the order of our picks...

Rule Clarification - Procedures

Postby 2cityfan » Tue Jun 19, 2007 3:00 pm

OK, based on Vince's input, and the challenges presented by keeping to the really restricted free agent pool.. Here's the general idea for the league

Step 1 - I will assign each of us a drafting position and division placement based on tonights lottery results

Step 2 - I will set up the league, and PM the password around based on the drafting order..

Step 3 - When we enter our teams we will load at least 20 players from our assigned 2 team franchises + up to 5 players from the open 6 teams: (STL, KC, AZ, COL, SEA, SD).

Step 4 - auto draft runs, all our teams are set up.. we will have Waivers for free agents... The league roster only requirement is that you must maintain at least 19 players from your assigned franchises + NO MORE that 5 free agents throughout waivers and the season

Please let me know if this look right and meets expectations

I'm perfectly fine with the 5 free agents thing. That's good.

I'm confused a bit about step 4 although I don't have a particular question. I think it'll become clearer to me as we get closer, though.

where did we get the thought that the idea that the first team in the East gets it's number one pick? I have never seen that stated, (have been around from day 1) and was always under the impression it was random. If I am first in the East and rank Pujols 1, you are saying I get Pujols?

I really expected this to be a live draft for the extra players, otherwise there was no point in a lottery except for divisional ranking.

You are also changing the rule regarding franchise players? It was clearly stated that the only "free agents' were players from the 6 open teams.
I can live with the autodraft plan, but I don't know if I want to continue if we are changing the whole structure of what I thought I was signing up for.

DISREGARD this POST agent pool amended from initial post

Postby 2cityfan » Tue Jun 19, 2007 3:36 pm

DISREGARD THIS POST The true free agent pool is any player from the unassigned 6 teams + any other player not on an open franchise... This pool will work better for the autodraft - waivers period, + more flexibility to fill gaps and use top players..

I personally think a live draft would work better and would favor that ..
Also, just to clarify what you are saying about the free agent pool.. Players on all teams that are not assigned to an owner are eligible to be drafted

Vince 0501... help me out... from your previous posts I thought you wanted to open up the free agent pool to players not on an active roster.. As for drafting position, I hope you are right it's random but I might wrong. and there is not need for a lottery selection process..I think we got the auto draft and waivers confused...

Spell out how you would like it to flow...exactly as my previous post, except no lottery and the free agent pool is restricted to the 6 open teams? I am fine with that as well, as long as for the autodraft we adhere to the 20 man rule you suggested...

This is what I thought we were doing.

1. Exclusive player rights to all players on our 2 franchise teams. These players were not available to any other team whether or not they were on our active team. Essentially they would be our minor leagues.

2. We would have a lottery to determine the draft order for a 5 or 6 round draft of the open team players.

3. Trades would be allowed as long as the minimum number of players from our franchise teams were kept on our active roster.

The other problem with an auto draft in this kind of league is you will have unfair draft results. For example, someone picks Pujols number 1 and does not get him. Instead Hal gives him Morneau, because I did not draft him. Morneau still belongs to me, and he does not get his number 1 pick nor his alternate. For that reason I think we have to do a live draft.

I would suggest a four round draft. That should cover most of the best options from the leftover teams. Everyone make sure they have 21 players from their franchise teams, plus the 4 draft picks on their auto draft list. After the draft you can make adjustments, and pick up anybody not on a franchise team. And you can get to the minimum 19 if you wish.
