Best 2007 Leadoff Hitters

Postby askaufman » Fri Jul 20, 2007 3:55 pm

I've had Abreu twice. First team: 106 runs 137 walks, .247 avg., .384 obp, in Bankone.
Second team after 75 games: 56 runs, 62 walks, .252 avg., .391 obp. in Ameriquest

His batting has been weak and he is headed for over 160 strikeouts in both seasons and about 20 stolen bases.

Loften as a DH rocks...but who to match him up with?

I'm currently having some luck Carlos Guillen in the leadoff spot, particulalry vs. RHP, and he has some speed. Granted, ideally he'd hit lower in the line-up to driven in runs, but you do what you can.

I have used Reyes as a top of the order in US Cell with great success. While his OBP is not ideal, his speed is a great asset.
US Cell, batting #2 behind Mauer:
723 146 206 31 17 23 105 49 96 45 5 21 .285 .330 .470
Tied for team lead in runs with Howard, who hit 66 HR's. Interesting that Mauer had one more hit and 21 more walks, yet scored 25 less runs from the leadoff spot, which I attribute to Reyes' speed advantage, as he wasn't erasing Mauer in too many DP's.

Maicer Izturis is a good cheap leadoff hitter vs. righties. I've had him twice ending with OBPs of .360-.370.

Well, if you're going for a leadoff vs. left, how about Jason Smith? 59.5 natural ob chances and a *, all for $1.8M. For the under $1M crowd, Bruntlett might pair up well.
