Range ratings for new set

[quote:11658546cc="WPWangfuddle"]I guess the ones I'd be most interested in are:

Russell Branyan
Raphael Furcal
Nelson Cruz
Anderson Hernandez

Most are in the 80-150 AB range. Would Furcal's injury make him more likely to have a card? Anyway, thanks.[/quote:11658546cc]

In order:

[b:11658546cc]Branyan[/b:11658546cc]: maybe, because his numbers against LHP would make a great pitchers card and his numbers against RHP aren't all that impressive I'd say better than 75% yes, but could go either way

[b:11658546cc]Furcal[/b:11658546cc] [b:11658546cc]IF[/b:11658546cc] he gets a card he'll have an injury on the 7 and it will still be a 7-8mil card, I'd say 50-50 shot but only because of the injury. If he was a late season call up and had this number of pa's with these type of offensive numbers he'd be the poster boy for exclusion, but the injury may actually get him in. I'd say 50-50 shot

[b:11658546cc]Cruz[/b:11658546cc] Looks like his card will look a lot like Braun's from this years set, the one significant difference, only 132 pa's [b:11658546cc]IF [/b:11658546cc]he gets a card and I think that's a [b:11658546cc]HUGE[/b:11658546cc] if, it'll be a 9-10 mil card easy. My guess 10% chance of getting a card

[b:11658546cc]Hernandez[/b:11658546cc]- First of all, where was this offense when he played for the Mets :?: , but this is the easiest one here, less then 100 pa's with those numbers, I'd say he's got NO shot at a card in TSN SOM. BUT, his power numbers aren't that great, no HR's so he'll be a W, and low OPS, so maybe he sneaks in, but I'd still bet against it becuase he's under 100 pa's.

So there you go, that's my totally unscientific opinion's on those 4 guys, your mileage may vary, and I have no insider information, just 7 years (has it been that long???) of playing this game on the TSN site.

Whoops, I meant Ramon Santiago instead of Anderson Hernandez. I had looked at Hernandez and decided he wouldn't be included. Oh well, I think I get the gist of it, thanks.

Pablo Sandoval of San Fran comes immediately to mind.

Who are you worried about? post it here and I can give you a guess, but again there's no telling for sure what TSN will do it's a crap shoot based on pre-relases playtesting.

Pablo Sandoval is the one I'm concerned with you big jerk. :D Just picked up in a pre-card draft...I figured it's worth a roll of the dice.[/quote:195110eaef]

Sooooo sorry. Sandoval has 2 things going for him though, #1 he's much better against one side than the other and platoon guys often sneak through, and #2, he qualifies at catcher and they always have low ab's.

Santiago is a tough call, he had low ab's becuase he was a sub player, but played every month of the season. He's over 100ab's but not over 200, and his offensive numbers are really good, REALLY tough call, could make it and be really expensive or not make it at all, I'd lean towards not at all.
His card reminds of Carlos Baerga's from a few years ago who post similar numbers over 250 ab's and still didn't get a card.
I wouldn't draft him in a pre-card league as my primary SS, but might take a laet round flyer on him if it's a deep draft.

It might be hard to implement and enforce, but I think the best way to handle a situation of a low AB player with a great card dominating the league, without removing him from the player pool, is to activate one of the features of the CDROM game, which is either "Try to limit overusage" or "Fully control overusage"
Which basically means that HAL will not let a batter who has say 125 AB's on the season get more than say 150 AB total throughout the season. As a result, players with fewer AB's will be a bit cheaper. It could also force roster moves and more managing decisions as the season goes on. One reason why I don't like the non-mystery card games as much is because once the season starts, I'm mostly sitting back and seeing what happens. if my guys were running out of AB's, before HAL would start using the backups to start instead, I'd be more likely to make a roster move.
I dunno, it's just a thought.

So the players we should focus on are REG and MIX only or can we throw in the ADD players? My understanding for the COMP guys are a definite no. Thanks in advance!

ADD players, are a maybe, check their stats, if less than 100 ab's stay away, less then 25 ip stay away. And you are right about COMP, they willl defintly NOT be available on TSN.

How is Robinson Cano a 3? By the way he "played" last year, the guy should be a solid 4. He never bent down. No range, no athleticism. Total suckage.

[quote:169d0a4c5c="Madigan33"]According to fielding bible McLouth was the worst outfielder last year, yet strato has him as a 1?

Strat's individual player ratings are often adjusted to increase the statistical accuracy of an actual season replay. In other words, if making Derek Jeter a three like he should be is going to cost the Yankees 7 or 8 wins in a replay because their pitching is so bad then he will remain a two, like he has. Hope that helps explain some of the unjustified ratings.
